How can I stop feeling so much pain? My dad died at 11:52 PM. It's 1:54 Am now. I can't sleep or eat anything, and haven't since he had the heart attack two days ago. He went into cardiac arrest while in the hospital recovering from the heart attack. I'm lost. I don't know what to do. I don't want anyone around me, I don't want to do anything. How can I stop feeling so much pain?

How can I believe the words of the Bible if all of it was written by MAN? And over 2000 years I think some people have probably changed a few things in it.

Athiests, feel free to put your input too. I know that my title just begged for you to do so anyway. Christians... Why do we attack other preachers and let Satan have free reign? Don't we have a job to do? Don't we have an enemy to crush? If a preacher is, in your eyes, a heretic, don't preach about him unless he is threatening your congregation. Preach the bible to teach your people that his teachings are heresy, but don't attack a preacher personally. Why aren't we telling Satan to get his hands off of preachers and begging God to fill them with His Spirit? Why can't we be like Christ who preached hard against the Pharisees who threatened his ministry, but told his deciples to leave alone those who preached repentance who weren't exactly thier stripe? Why can't we mainline on exposing the deciever, the accuser, that old adversary Satan and on uplifting our Savior and his gospel?

I am a Christian myself and have heard this many times. Is there some biblical basis for this in revelation? Is it a belief because many believe our country was founded on Christian principles? Please no flaming, serious answers if you can, thanks!

A question for LDS answerers out there. I've been non-religious for several years, though I was raised United Methodist and was a practicing pagan for a few years. I've given some thought as to what my core beliefs are, and I know that there is a greater being than I, but I do not discern Its nature. I know also that prayer is real and works. Recently I've been feeling that pull ... that I need something more in my life. I've been seeking for a church that would be receptive to my past and help guide me to my future, and I am wondering if LDS is that church.

How do I go about figuring out which church (and here I mean the building) to go to? I have heard that there are different "wards" and "stakes", but I don't know what this means for me. Is it permitted to simply attend a worship service "unannounced" as it were? Any help greatly appreciated.

This question is only for people that believe in heaven.

Would you rather spend a weekend vacation In heaven itself (and then return to your life here) or receive half a million dollars in your bank account down here on good old earth.

It seems to me people only attack others' beliefs because they're insecure about their own, or perhaps threatened by someone else's beliefs. What do you think?

"You know like I do what lies behind this religion (Islam), after all this crime carried out against Iranians. lets do one good thing and tell the people what is behind this religion. Lets tell everyone that this religion is neither "martyr generating", nor pro-science nor pro the people. You rightly regard yourself, the supreme leader and your Guardian Council as the elite, and the "martyr generating" nation of Iran are the plebs. Now for the sake of God tell the truth to the people that there is nothing in this religion but stupidity and ignorance, other than silly laws about what is considered clean and what is untouchable, what is allowed and what is not allowed…” - BY Mullah Hadi Ma'ssumi.

...but didn't really seem to know much about him (for example, he/she didn't know about the huge numbers of people Hitler killed/had executed), wouldn't you try to enlighten your friend and show him/her what kind of a person Hitler really was?

Personally, I would. Which is why I can't understand why some (keyword: *some*) Christians complain about how some atheists "attack" Christianity. I'm sorry, but there's just a lot of upsetting stuff in the bible, and in the same way that I wouldn't want a friend of mine to be duped into believing that Hitler was a nice guy, I also wouldn't want a good friend sucked into belief that the God of the bible is simply a kind, loving God.

I find the last sentence of the second paragraph particularly disturbing.

If anyone feels that I've spoken in error, please point this out to me and why you feel this way. I like to think of myself as open-minded.

The idea of an omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent and always-absent God seems to defy logic.

What if God was just a really, really intelligent human-like being that knew how to manipulate the great unifying force and control His mind. A technology advanced enough is indistinguishable from miracle or magic. Perhaps we truly don't understand the nature of God. Perhaps there is the illusion of omnipotence?

Taking into consideration that the church always was against veneration of Nature, stating it was de facto a 'false god' and now sudddenly they take a 180° spin. Is the pope honestly changing, something that'd normally take years, if not centuries, or is he just trying to make the church get profit out of the 'new' environmentalism ?

I'm an atheist and it reflects my feelings well.

Faithless Lyrics
Artist:Rush

I've got my own moral compass to steer by
A guiding star beats a spirit in the sky
And all the preaching voices -
Empty vessels of dreams so loud
As they move among the crowd
Fools and thieves are well disguised
In the temple and market place

Like a stone in the river
Against the floods of spring
I will quietly resist

Like the willows in the wind
Or the cliffs along the ocean
I will quietly resist

I don't have faith in faith
I don't believe in belief
You can call me faithless
I still cling to hope
And I believe in love
And that's faith enough for me

I've got my own spirit level for balance
To tell if my choice is leaning up or down
And all the shouting voices
Try to throw me off my course
Some by sermon, some by force
Fools and thieves are dangerous
In the temple and market place

Like a forest bows to winter
Beneath the deep white silence
I will quietly resist.

So in the garden of eden adam and eve eat the forbidden fruit and are cursed by god with mortality and women are cursed to go through painful bloody childbirth which back then threatened the lives of mother and child. It's not like Eve knew much better, god seems to never have said a single word to her, so she has spoken to a snake and Adam, who was literally born yesterday.

Cain on the other hand commits fratricide becuase "god liked his brothers offering better" and is esentially rewarded for this.

What the hell is wrong with this picture? All I can get from this is god thinks it is better to kill your own family then to aquire knowledge?
