i was just watching documentary on turkey and how they banned hijab in all public places(i.e university, hospitals libary).and this Turkish woman said that the reason they can't let any woman wear hijab in university.is because they are afraid other people will be influenced and that someday women might be forced to wear it

but doesn't that give the ok to let saudi arabia to use the same arguement for not letting women come to university without the veil.and they could say if we let the women come unveiled it might influcene other people and some day the women will be force to take it off.

so shouldn't the country just allow the woman a choice to wear or not.
for example in the united arab emirates there are muslim women who wear the veil to university and some who don't.but neither are forced to do the other.so why can't they just give the woman a choice?

This is a serious question. I'm an atheist. I've never been able to comprehend why people believe in God or any particular religion.

To me, all religions seem to be invented by man to serve two basic functions. To establish rules and morals, and to serve man's basic need to believe that death is not final.

How can you believe a bunch of stories, written thousands of years ago, interpretted and re-interpretted many times, with such unlikely things happening? Do you really believe that God spoke to Moses via a burning bush and that Moses parted the Red Sea? If there truly was a worldwide flood, where did all the extra water come from, and go to? Why was Christ declared divine only hundreds of years after his death? Seems to me if he truly was resurrected, that would have been pretty obvious from day one.

I've observed people are either raised religious or find religion during some personal crisis. No one finds it when everythings A-OK.

I am getting sick of seeing "Christians shouldn't celebrate Christmas because it has pagan roots to Winter Solstice" or stuff like that. So freaking what! Winter Solstice is still on the calander, why not celebrate your holiday then? I am tired of being told I can't have my holiday! You have Winter Solstice, Christians have Christmas, Jews have Hannakah (which, I'm sure was changed dates after the modern calander was made), Muslims have Ramadan, and African-Americans have Kwanza. No one has the right to say any of us can't celebrate our december holiday! Stop picking on Christians and just celebrate your Yule/Winter Solstice/Saturnia/whatever on your day. How about that?

Why do people make such a big deal out of the nativity story. It is controversial. If people who don't want to see it then they don't have to pay the money and are not being forced to see it? It is like anything Christian is a controversy. Yet we promote films with gays, violence, and nudity saying it is ok in our society. I don't understand it. It is like the worlds views are backwards. It is like if you don't want to see the movie then don't pay to go see it. People are like we don't want to offend anyone? Am I the only one who feels like this?

I understand all beliefs , even amongst the tribes still in the stone age have a faith of sort in the spirit or soul going somewhere else after the transition we call death. I believe there is more to life as we know it , there is a reason why we are here in this planet , in this thinking beings, in this search of the understanding of the great mystery, what do you think/

(This thought experiment may be at first disturbing. Please read all the way to the end.)

In both Anglebrook and Bordendtown, there lived very few Jewish familes. As it happens, one Jewish family in each town put a lit Menorah in their window during Hannukah season, and each family had the awful experience of having a rock thrown through their window, aimed at the Menorah.

Both communities responded, but in different ways.

In Anglebrook, the town council passed a hate crimes bill, outlawing attacks against property for religious reasons. This law passed unanimously.

In Bordentown, the local hardware store placed Menorahs on sale for $2.00 each, and within 3 days, more than 800 homes had Menorahs shining in their windows.

IN WHICH COMMUNITY WOULD YOU RATHER RESIDE? WHY?

In what way does your reasoning stem from your personal faith or ethics?

Are you open minded and not a pc-drone? Type in a Quran search engine “fight”, “kill”, “enemies”. Actually I can make this easier, just check out this website that lists some of the hundreds of Jihad ayas, and then double check them in an Islamic site to insure authenticity.

Ok, so there are countless commands to kill and fight the unbelievers…what do Muslims say.

“Its only for defense! It doesn’t mean what it says, its not for genocide of all unbelievers.” Yea well, why does the Quran use hundreds of sentences to describe what you claimed it said with one easy phrase? Swear to Allah that any religion, which commands the murder of people, simply cause of unbelief, must be false.

“it doesn’t say that!!” Why you avoiding the question. I’m trying to find out whether your lying to me intentionally. This can be easily done by your swearing to Allah that you believe what your IMPLYING you believe, but not saying you believe.

When the white men bought Africans to America, what was their reasons for hating blacks? They had never seen blacks before so how can you hate something you have never seen?. So can it be safely assumed that racism towards blacks actually has no root? Is it generated and grown from personal distaste such as typical racists today will use the usual "black gangsters/welfare/ghetto" stereotype for their reasons. *gagging* If there were no black slaves, would racism for blacks exist? i.e. jim crow, civil rights movements, etc

I did not make it up. I think it is our nature to question and wonder.. one would think this might be the forum for it.

anyway, to be called names, etc. for asking a question is strange to me.

Those who did answer honestly and sincerely, thank you very much.

Yes its true translated copies of the Bible was banned by the Church. Up till the modern day.

The funny thing is Latin Vulgate held officially acceptable was itself translated from the original Hebrew and Greek.

I wonder what they were trying to hide?

What I find most amazing is that people would convert to a religion (likely by force) without even knowing what its holy texts said.

Alright. I'm a bit fed up about this, it's not the first time it's happened.

As many people on this forum of Y!A know, I put a link at the end of all of my answers to a question.

But, you see, I was asking an innocent question about my *health*, and I got very VERY rude responses completely unrelated to what I was asking.

Stanleyhui73 responded with: You are being possessed by Belial. Did you watch the movie "Exorcism of Emily Rose"? You are the next victim of this evil spirit called Belial... 3AM... 3AM... 3AM... May the spirit of Jesus Christ rest in peace!

Aisha (S.W.T.) responded with: what have you been messing with? have u been praying to the trees, the dolls, the spirits and the likes? quit messing with these stuff, lest you cause your loved ones or yourself to pay for it dearly.

All I was asking for was help with a sleeping problem.

My question can be found at http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AjbEvEfc.Mug_FQcLB0wpk_sy6IX?qid=20061129053328AA9GlzV
