Let's just put it this way: when the French started prying political power away from the Church they called it the "Enlightenment" and it has only been uphill from there. Truly the larger the separation between church and a functional representative democracy, the better. Every part of the world where government and religion are intertwined is a backwards sewer.

I am a Christian but I am all for the separation of church and state. There are a diversity of people in this country that need to be heard and represented fairly to our government. It could never do that if the church ran the government. And which church would run it? The church would gain unfathomable power and we would probably end up like in the medieval times and before where if you didn't believe what they said, you'd be killed.

It's a great idea, the first colonists to the New World came here to escape religious persecution, and I think you could argue that much of the success that the USA has had can be partly attributed to a separation of Church+State.
My only issue is that the 1st Amendment is a bit vague (perhaps intentionally so?).

I don't see how freedom is possible without separation of church and state. If the state embraced my religion, I would be free, but people with different faiths would not be free. As a member of a religious minority, I can tell you that the US does not have separation of church and state.

True Christians are told by Jesus not to get involved with this world and that includes politics. But it was all foretold that the FALSE religions would mix right in with politics and then soon now they will be turned on and false religion will be done away with. Now is the time to see if you are really following what the bible says. Not to mix with politics is one among many other things such as false teachings and involvement with any wars that false religions do. True Christians know only God can clean up this place and man cannot rule themselves and survive. And God has a time picked out when he will act and until then man has a chance to seek Him before it is too late. He is giving us this time for our benefit for ones to search for Him and find out the truth.
So church and state should be separate but it was foretold that the FALSE religions would mix in and cause chaos and then they will be turned on and done away with. True Christians will then be left standing and when they are turned on God will step in by means of Jesus and clean up this place.

We have very poor separation of church and state in the US and as a highly educated and intelligent member of the reality-based communitry it absolutely enrages me.
God is on our national currency. There is Bible prayer in the fu cking white house!! Huge raging violations of church and state. Unless of course, you have a low IQ. Then there's no problem.
We have religious members of congress who vote against stem cell research. First of all who can prove there is even a soul involved. Who are they to say a soul even exists! They cannot prove anything! The country is in BIG ******* TROUBLE if we do not separate church and state.

well it is a subtle method to establish, a g-dless occult religious church state, of either/or the satan, the baal molech or lucifer to lead your county into oblivion. so it is a sneaky method to denounce your religion, while establishing an occult church state religion against G-D. which shall result in the destruction of this nation, and democracy.
you were all warned about the more subtle than any other beast of the fields ability to decieve you all. yet here you are being decieved out of G-D in your government today religiously, in full rebellion against G-D. TheG-D WHO has already been sending you warnings shots of unwinable wars, school massacres and 9/11. so do not expect pestilence, plagues and famines to diminish, for as long as you are apothetic against G-D.
so you can listen to these G-Dless clowns from hell, all the way into oblivion for you all if you realy want to. but the term separation of chuch and state, is being totaly misused out of context purposly to decieve you. since no where in the constitution or the declaration of independance written by john handcock is this term even mentioned. but it is mentioned for the government not to establish any occult religion against, anyones belief in G-D. nor should they be establishing any religious school system against G-D. freedom of religion is meant for the government not to establish any religion as a national religion, such as baptist, catholic, or any occult religion which may even claim they are not a religion. when their is no such thing as a non-religious plant or animal on this planet.

I think a union of church and state are deadly poisin. In Canada, Government has changed the definition of marriage, against the majority of the peoples wishes. How can people be captured in a Democracy overnight? Because the majority of the people, that said No, overnight, live in a country, that does not uphold its foundational beliefs. We are captured in the farce that "they" call democracy. Thanks for listening to my rant, and the 2 points.

Religion is a personal thing. Government applies to all the citizens of a state or country. One should never dictate to the other and they should always remain separate. Our founders knew this and so should we.

The church (any church) should have no say in the governing of the U.S., and the U.S. government should have no say in the religious practices of a church (negating the necessary protection of children, etc.). The separation of church and state is necessary for the protection of both entities.
