Well, religious folks comment that we should not speak about their beliefs since we are ignorant of them.

If so, shouldn't they stay out scientific topics like evolution or the Big Bang since they are equally ignorant of them due to the misconceptions they developed from their religion?

It seems that the love thing and the discipline functions are what would be expected from a father in the critical years of youth. The high numbers of fathers who need to work excessive hours and the large proportion of single parent homes seem to be depriving children of their fathers. Could this explain the religious fervour of many of the Christians. Do God and Jesus represent the fathers they wish that they had, and never did.

Before you answer that consider this: birtday celebrations are actually superstitious beliefs. According to reputable reference materials, such as the World Book, birthdays were celebrated to ward off evil spirits. So people in ancient time lighted candles.

So, are you superstitious?

If you went free face rock climbing and took no precautions to be safe and fell to your death, do you think God would consider it suicide if you didn't care if you lived or died while doing it?

I subscribe to beliefnet daily bible readings and daily prayers. Yesterday for some reason I got a Jewish verse of the day Genesis 25:1-25:11 from the Torah, and that verse spoke about Abraham marrying another woman and having many concubines and having other wives besides sarah. It goes on to speak about when he died, He left everything to Issac and left provisions for his other wives and concubines as well as for their children. Then it said that Isaac and Ishmial buried Abraham Together!!!. I was really confused by this, because It is so contrary to our own bible. It made me start wondering. How do we balance faith with knowledge, Belief with Logic, or are the two parings always going to be at odds with one another? Will it effect my faith to read the Torah? What about the differences in the same scriptures, stories and characters of our Bible? I mean it isnt like this is another God, same God, different version of the truth. I mean Jesus was a Jew after all. what about that

Three times this has happened to me, I have said to someone that I do not believe in god and the person I told (who did believe in god) said "really? Why don't you just kill yourself now then? What do you have to live for?"

This, to me, was the most perplexing and unexpected response I could have ever gotten. Then I got the same response again, and later yet again.

Why do people who believe in god feel that way (and feel that it would not be wrong for someone to kill themself)?

I honestly do not understand how these people reached this conclusion and this has baffled me for years.

The gardener......Carl was a quiet
man. He didn't talk much. He would always greet you with a big smile and a firm handshake.Even after living in our neighborhood for over 50 years, no one could really say they knew him very well. Before his retirement, he took the bus to work each morning. The lone sight of him walking down the street often worried us. He had a slight limp from a bullet wound received in
W.W.II. Watching him, we worried that although he had survived W.W.II, he may not make it through our changing uptown neighborhood with its ever-increasing random violence, gangs, and drug activity. when he saw the flier at our local church asking for volunteers for caring for the
gardens behind the minister's residence, he responded in his
characteristically unassuming manner. Without fanfare, he just signed up. He was well into his 87th year when the very thing we had always feared finally happened. He was just finishing his watering for the day when three gang

you may think its all cool-but I never smoked weed but I have watched others get wacked out and destroy their life on it and not be able to have fun off the drug that is cursed from when God cursed the earth and poison ivy came too.

I use to drink and live a loose life with my x g/f but we didnt have sex cause I still respected it was for marriage

but as a Jew I rejected letting Jesus into my heart to be my Messiah savior and best friend

Isaiah predicted it very clearly 9:6 "He will be exalted. First he will be marred more than any man. He will lay down his life as a lamb and be despised and rejected. He will make atonement for our sins."

So I knew sinning was bad and it hurt my life I was lookin ato porn and drinkin on weekends and inside I knew it was wrong but i was too caught up in sin to give it up-at times I tried but failed.

then I saw what Jesus said and prayed to let him in my heart-Revelation3vs19&20 "I love you and knock on your heart to come in and save you."

My boyfriend and I come from religious bakgrounds except my family is a lot more religious and controling than his. My family would not stand for it. "Shacking" as it is termed is believed to be a sin. I don't think it's the act of living together, but what happens when lovers live in the same house and sleeping in the same bed. We have a baby together, but to my family there's a difference between committing a sin and living in sin daily. We have never spent the night together because of the respect (or fear) I have for my family. We plan to be married within the next 2 years, but he thinks it's a good idea to live together first to really know what we are getting ourselves into.
FYI: We're in our mid 20's and we both have great careers, if that makes a diff.
