Before you answer that consider this: birtday celebrations are actually superstitious beliefs. According to reputable reference materials, such as the World Book, birthdays were celebrated to ward off evil spirits. So people in ancient time lighted candles.

So, are you superstitious?

Celebrating a birthday does not make someone superstitious. A person is only superstitious if the perform a certain behavior to get a specific result when that behavior has no causal relationship to the result. In plain english, Celebrating a birthday is only superstitious if you do it to ward off evil spirits.

No, I am not superstitious.

Don't be so hardened! Birthdays are the only time of the year when it is reasonable to celebrate someone just because they exist in your life. Until I read your posting, I had not heard that such celebrations originally were meant to ward of evil spirits. I don't believe in evil spirits, but I believe in celebrating my family and friends. Some people probably believe the nonsense about making a wish and blowing out the candles, but most people laugh that part off.

I hope that the people who love you help you celebrate your birthday, not because they're afraid some demon is going to gouge out your eyes, but simply because in their lives, you play a significant role.

Most people I meet are superstitious to some extent. I play bridge on the Internet and when we win 2 rubbers in a row my Partner wants to change tables or names. I laugh at her but I agree with it. And a lot of superstition is experience or common sense. I know from my betting days that there are periods when it is raining 10 Dollar notes and a week later it is raining 10 Dollar notes but I get hit with a summons. People say that not walking under ladders is superstitious but I think it is wise to avoid getting a brick on your head. So I would have to answer your question in the affirmative. lolol

If you don't know of the superstition but still do it, does that make you superstitious? Most people just celebrate because it's the day they were born, to celebrate the life.

Now that you've put it like that....I guess I am superstitious. We even do a ritual, where we "make a wish", before we blow out the candles.

Why do I feel like birthday cakes will never be fun for me anymore? (sigh).

Not in the least. I'm quite ignorant of any traditions like you said in your additional information. I light candles on a cake so I or some one else can blow them out and we can get to eating. Hopefully there isn't too much wax from the candles and not too much spit from whoever blew them out.
I walk under ladders as a past time. :)

No I feel we chose our own luck whether is bad or good. How can birthdays be superstitious, it's the day you were born or do you consider that lucky or unlucky.

no because i use the candles for how many yrs you have been living... and we don't live in the ancient times. birthdays are not to ward off evil today, they are to celebrate your birth... hence your BIRTHday.
