Whenever I talk to Christians about evolution they don’t seem to understand how it works.

They say things like ¨look at your hands, how can something so perfect for the job not have been designed ¨.

Which suggests to me they believe evolution is about things happening by accident.

So let me clarify this point. Evolution isn’t about lucky accidents its about trial and error. There is a subtle but important difference.

When two life forms reproduce DNA from both the male and female are mixed together, but also a random element is introduced. This random element is vital as it gives the life form new ways of adapting to its environment.

Say a new life form is born with a gene that lets it cope better with heat. If the environment then suddenly gets very hot, it’s brothers and sisters will die and it will live to pass on that gene to it’s children.

Now take a look at an apes hands they aren’t all that different from ours are they...

The OT God is all about smiting and wrath and punishment.

The NT God is all forgiving and loving and kind.

Whenever science has proven any obviously flaws with the Bible the Christian explanation has been "the Bible is not meant to be taken literally".

Whenever you question a Christian on how they arrive at their conclusions without factual basis the Christian explanation is that you must have "faith".

Using these type of explanations seems so logical to those emotionally attached to it as it would appear that they are always right, but these style of explanations absorb all reasoning whether it is right or wrong.

It reminds me of the Amway rep that who upon my questioning all the details of the marketing plan that didn't add up professed that if I didn't believe in the opportunity I could never make it happen.

If the defense of suggesting "faith" (or lack of it) is to be used by Christian's in the face of any objection, are Christians not setting themselves up to block any logic no matter who is right or wrong? Is this any different than the logic of fundamentalist Muslims?

This was written by Brenda's World, in answer to another question: "Why can’t the believers of religious theory just behave in a decent manner, in much the same way as the scientific community does." My question is this: If that statement is true, then why do all public school science books start out with "Millions and millions of years ago..."? Why are kids forced to learn the THEORY of evolution (which hasn't been proven) if the scientific community isn't forcing their views down our throats?

I am spiritual, not religious. I believe in God but do not subscribe at all to religion.

Something did happen in the middle east almost 7000 yrs ago, because the prophets thst wrote the books were obviously very prophetic... where did they get their info? and no I do not believe it was a one on one with God.

i just wanted to ask anyone who is religious in anyway, and i respect you all BIG TIME, i mean my favourite role model, Shawn Michaels, is religious, but what made you religious. Do you believe in God/s? if you had to say one statement/ speach/ passage that would make me religious and believe in that religion what would it be? also as an addition, what do you think god is?
