My impression of the average joe american is a guy with a family, whom hangs an american flag outside his house and believes in "the american dream".

Most americans will deny this. I would like to know the following questions with ACCEPTABLE answers (Don't put... "because we can").

1) Why do a majority of Americans hang their flags outside their houses 24-7? Are you so confident in your country?

2) Why do a majority of Americans drive huge cars, and are UN AWARE of the pollution their country causes?

3) Why are americans so supportive of a president who holds a book upside down to read it? (is this an amazing quality)

4) Why are americans so happy when the british pound is worth X2 the USD?

5) Why does Dr.Phil have such a large impact on american oppinion?

6) Why is george bush President?

I was just called racist for thinking that illegal immigrants should be deported, and I'm wondering when it became racist to be a law-abiding citizen? I realize that it's mostly Mexicans and Hispanic groups that feel they are above immigration laws, but I didn't say I wanted them all sent back. The illegals from ANY country should be deported.

Why is that racist?

Every day we hear about how we can protect our children from being exploited and or abducted- but no where have I ever seen any information in regards to the prevention of adults being abducted which in turn seems to produce more and more missing adult people every year.

Do you have any problems with being called or referred to as a female? I'm not talking about using the word as an adjective, but as a noun. For some reason, it just galls me to no end. Rats, bats and cockroaches are females; I prefer person, woman or lady. It's a picky little thing, I know, just a pet peeve. Your thoughts?

This man and so many others are a disgrace to all other Americans. Racist attacks like these prove a sense of insecurity, in my opinion.

Are people raised like this? I live in Iowa, and such remarks full of hatred are almost unheardof here. Who gives a flying **** about a person's racial background. It isn't fair that foreign people are judged when they've done nothing wrong. Just because one person does something wrong, that doesn't mean you have the right to stereotype every other person who shares their ethnicity.

All of us came from somewhere else too, if you go back far enough.

Even if you did not believe in war, or death penality. Would you change your mind if your child was killed by a bomb in their school, or just going to the store by a car bomb? Or if your parents where killed just for beleaving in a different God?

It is easy to say no I wouldnt, but think about it, would you not want revenge on the people or person who did it?

I hate being called "African-American" and I hate to call others hyphenated Americans. As a country, why do we insist on doin gthins like this? Don't people realize that all it's doing is creating more and more division amongst us? Why the need to categorize each other instead of having the one commonality that can bring us all together and end this racism bug forever? No more bilingual ed, no more BET, no more NAACP, no more Black music awards, no more Latin music awards shows, no more Black thids or Latino thta, and most of all, no other language than English!!

I'm telling you, this is the time where we need to get this under control because it's getting out of hand. Today, Latino illegal immigrants marching for rights they do not have; tomorrow Muslim terroists ripping this country to shreds!!

Just curious if white guys immediately check out a girl's butt when she walks past. I get sooo annoyed because a lot (most)of black guys will blatantly turn as i'm walking past and lower their head to my butt. Just a tad on the uncomfortable side.

Why do Americans have an innate sense of superiority to the rest of the world when the reverse is true in many aspects of their society. They often claim to be the most liberal society, whereas I would say that the Dutch and even the British are for more liberal. The claim to be the most technologically advanced, whereas the South Koreans and Japanese obviously have better technology. They often claim to have the best economy but China and India will overtake the US in the next 20 years as the economic superpowers. So what, Exactly, does make America great?

A partner in our agency came out recently. I overheard some grumblings about, "Why do "those people" have to always shove it in our faces." Fortunately, my newly outed lesbian co-worker explained that the reason she came out was not to "Flaunt her sexuality" but it simply made life easier because we ALL flaunt our sexuality. We tease singles or try to set them up on dates. We display our husbands and wives' photos. She has to deal with being set up on blind dates (with men), or being asked what did she and her husband (she wears a gold band on her ring finger) are doing this weekend or asked questions people would ask a straight woman. When she tries to side step questions it is perceived as being secretive and unsociable. When she just comes out, she is accused of "flaunting it" when all she really wants is the
same comfort level we ALL give each other regarding our personal lives. I have to admit she certainly changed my view about "coming out".

What about you?

I read that there aren't many drive-in theaters left in the country. They don't make any money from tickets sales; all of that money goest to movie makers. They only make money from concession stands. If you go to the drive-in and don't buy any drinks or snacks, the drive-in loses money. I love drive-ins because they are a fun family activity. They make me nostolgiac about my childhood. Do you get annoyed when people bring their own food to the drive-in, and don't give their patronage to the concession stand?

A situation immortalized in O. Henry's story The Gift of the Magi, in which a young couple is too poor to buy each other Christmas gifts. The man finally pawns his heirloom pocket watch to buy his wife a set of combs for her long, prized, beautiful hair. She, meantime, cuts her hair to sell to a wigmaker for money to buy her husband a watch-chain. The irony is twofold: the couple, having parted with their tangible valuables, is caused by the act to discover the richness of the intangible.
