It is what we are programmed to do. Just look at most of the shows on television and you'll see why. Most of them contain images of the "rich and famous" which create thoughts of grandour in most of us. We cherish rappers, rockers, ballers, actors, millionaires, and anyone who has money to the point where basically having what they have becomes an obsession.

Maybe it it related to the other questions on evolution--our ancestors came here because of greed, so it is inbred in us and has continued to be a more prominent genetic trait.
