Someone I work with just lost a son in the much-covered bus accident. I really only know this person in passing, so I don't know if it's appropriate for me to go to the memorial service - which seems like the best place for me to say whatever needs to be said.

I want to be sensitive and to express my sympathy, but I know so many other people will be saying similar things. I don't want to be trite or sound like I personally know what he's going through. I'd appreciate any suggestions you might have. I've never been in a situation like this before.

I do. I'm an American and I'm fully convinced that America is the best country around. But, as an avid traveller, I always feel the urge to move to certain countries that I visit--Britain, Israel, or Mexico, for example. The only thing that keeps me from doing so is that fact that these countries are not America. And everything I love about America can only be found IN America. So I stay...albeit feeling a let down. Once you get the urge to move away you can't just ignore it.

Does that sound totally whacky or can you relate?

They seem to have these ridiculous and verbose way of saying things like "scallywagging", "tomfoolery", etc....... Why does every thing have to be so long when short simple words will do. Is this their way of trying to look intelligent

In America you've got the porn industry and Hollywood. But I'll bet more Britons look at the stuff than Americans. Sex education in America is based on abstinence while, I believe, in the UK it is contraception-centered. And I think pre-marital sex inThe UK is not quite the big deal it is in America. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I know that there is nothing that pleases everybody , but I there are some people who will do something (the trendsetters) and they have something that makes people respect them that whenever they do something, people don't make fun of them , and even if someone does -it is so not powerful, it just looks and feels completely stupid.

I would like to have more respect and be like those people who are respected. I mean like the kids in the class who are quite popular and they can just go crazy or do something lame or something people normally disapprove of but no one does or says anything when this particular person does it.

So how do they do it?

Question Details: I was thinking about getting a job as a stripper to help with college costs. Does this make me a bad person? Does it matter if you haven't had any experience? How are you supposed to learn all the things that they do? Any advice or anyone that has done this before would be appreciated. It's not like I have a pole in my bedroom to practice with. I know they buy the clothes to strip in but from where? Do you have audition first in front of the customers? I don't want to look stupid because I don't know what to do. Thanks for the help :o)

There is no devil equivalent in Hindu mythology and culture....

There is only Yama - the lord of death (and justice !) - no evil instinct per se.... and he reports to Shiva. Yama has a hell, but its not equivalent to Hell in Christian ideology...its more like a purgatory

Both good and evil, dark and light are under Gods' purview

Sure, there are a lot of minor baddies around in Hindu mythology, but no supreme evil - no concept of devil/Satan
------

What could be the possible impacts on the social psyche of the people growing under such a cultural milieu over the millenia, as compared to cultures with a devil concept ?

------
Incidentally, Yama appears in Chinese and Japanese mythology too

Milton S. Hershey (the inventor of Hershey chocolate) started up the Milton S. Hershey School for orphaned white boys that have nowhere to go. Now there's black and white, boys and girls going there. Stephen Girard owned a fleet of trade ships and before he died he opened up the Girard College in Philadelphia for underprivileged white boys. Now there's black and white, boys and girls going there. These people made their own money, opened their own schools, and it was their dying wish that only certain people can go there. Do you think it's ok for the government to override a will in the name of political correctness?

I drive a Taxi, and being UK White, the passengers will comment that its nice to see a white guy!
They forget that the "darker skinned" person got them home last week and sustained verbal abuse in his cab etc etc.
They forget they go for a "ruby" after a skin full of beer, and who makes it for them!
Being a white driver, I always remind them of this, and it shuts them up instantly!
no discussion.............does that make them cowards??!!

Wacked out homeless people (not their fault, of course). Depressed people. Obsessive compulsives. Borderline Personality Disorder. Psychopathic serial killers. Predatory gangs. Rapists. Pedophiles. Wacked out celebrities. Ann Coulter. (she should be committed to a mental hospital. Instead she's always popping up on cable TV). Even one of the astronauts has a screw loose. What is it about us (the USA)?
Breakdown of the family? High stress? Economic dislocation?

My Fiancee' works at a group home for "special kids" (known in slang among the staff as a "tard farm"). She is often on call when anything unusual happens. Well our home life has been absolute crap lately because she keep having to go in at all hours . It seems that the latest "fad" among the residents is pulling the fire alarm. It all happened stemmed from one time when they were all lined up to go out for ice cream, and one resident pulled the fire alarm in front of everyone. The residents were amused by the sight of the fire engines ,sirens ,etc. The resident who did the false alarm goes around now saying proudly "da..I puuulled it..." over and over again. And you know the old saying "monkey see monkey do". Well they (the handicapped) are all doing it now.

What can I do. I told my fiancee' to just disable the alarm and take her chances. Update: The home has recently come under scrutiny for substandard nutrition among other things!
