I do. I'm an American and I'm fully convinced that America is the best country around. But, as an avid traveller, I always feel the urge to move to certain countries that I visit--Britain, Israel, or Mexico, for example. The only thing that keeps me from doing so is that fact that these countries are not America. And everything I love about America can only be found IN America. So I stay...albeit feeling a let down. Once you get the urge to move away you can't just ignore it.

Does that sound totally whacky or can you relate?

There are two big things I'd miss that are uniquely American:

1.) The freedoms. I don't know anywhere else where you can be born poor or born to the wrong family or born in whatever adverse circumstances and still be able to make with your life whatever you want. That's special.

2.) Our values. Of most, if not all, western nations, only America still clings to the eternals like faith and family. Europe is in such trouble! Yikes! I love the UK--like the lady below--but that country is in such disrepair. That's the problem. Where's the spirit? The optimism? Only in America--that's the problem.

Do it. emerse yourself in another country for a few years. you'll find some things you love and hate about the other country and the US too. I did it., I'm a better person for it.

I relate, but I am now married and that door is more than closed at this time. Mission work would suit me, but since my wife does not feel this calling I must yearn in private. Though she does know I suffer from wander lust.

I have found solace in hunting and exploring less developed areas in my state and other places I visit. For you I would look to seasonal trips as long as you can afford in both time and money. Try to make it in the times that particular area is in its prime.

Our Church has a family that are about to become "Part Time" missionaries to Bangladesh. The time back home would be to work and provide for the next visit. Also they will organize how best to help those in need at the orphanage they are aiding.

So the short is you are not alone and I feel for you.

I would love to take my family to England and settle on the s.w area of Cornwall. Next best choice is Denmark or Australia. I do love the USA and have friends here, but I need a change right now.

Nah, not whacky.

I got the urge to pick up and move. I'm an american, and I'm in Canada now, and thinkin about relocating, either to the southern US, or to New Zealand.

But tell me, what is it that you cant find anywhere but America?
