They seem to have these ridiculous and verbose way of saying things like "scallywagging", "tomfoolery", etc....... Why does every thing have to be so long when short simple words will do. Is this their way of trying to look intelligent

Second, why do you even care? If you think something sounds idiotic or stupid, ignore it... seriously.
And, BTW, I don't like that ppl are responding w/ statements such as "Why do Americans" or "Why do ______ speak like retards as well??"
