I saw something-ko being compared to the same thing-ya. Is it child, or was it just random to show that -ko is female and -ya is male?

How do you know whether to use the word "who" or "whom" in a sentence? This has confused me for a long time.

There's a song, I thought I saw it in a Methodist hymnal, and it's also a Mormon song. It's called If I Could Hie to Kolob. What does Hie mean, exactly. And what language is it? I know it's like, If I could go to Kolob, or travel to Kolob, or visit Kolob, based on the general feel of the song. But it's not a word that I've ever heard used anywhere except this song.
Could it be Celtic, or Welsh, or something like that?

I've received an e-mail from my friend in argentina. He said that

My mom wants to translate her grandmothers journal that is written in shorthand (a text originally used by court recorders before machines and all that). I also would be interested in learning it just for fun. Any online resources or books? Perferably online and free.

I don't have very many pet peeves, but for me the one I hate the most is when they do not use periods after their sentences. For example, if someone were to write a letter, I want to be able to tell what they are saying.

I do not want to read a letter that goes on and on and never quits not using periods creates confusion I would think people have more common sense than this boy writing like this is difficult when you are not used to writing like this

It is difficult for me to write like this. My hubby writes like this so it is hard to read his letters. We are not apart very long, but when I am on vacation and he is working, we write when we can. What is your pet peeve in the written English language (meaning written errors)?
