I'm sure everyone has seen one or another form of it: a memo, post, or message with the obligatory 'to' and 'from' fields, followed by 'Re:' and then the subject of the message.

It's much more common online (in all the forum messages, usenet posts, etc.), so I'm not even sure whether it went from the virtual world into real life, or the other way around.

I always assumed Re stood for 'reply,' but I've been doubting this, because it's often used out of this context.

So, tell me, what does 're' stand for and (if it's something non-obvious) how did it originate?

why in yahoo, you ask a question in spanish, you all earse it ,but in yahoo spanish, they don't earse it , they try to help you or aleast call you dumb or something like that . I'm just trying to understand, they are some people, out there who can read and speak spanish, so why not try to help some of us to understand what they write please answer in english or spanish thank you

In Canada I know you have the right to an interpreter in the judicial court system, however if you're contacting a company and you do not speak English, are you allowed to ask for an interpreter? will the be able to help you with that? are they supposed to be helping with that?
