where can i look up history of english words?

i want to get history of some english words..like how they developed, changed over time, etc..there are sites that offer the basic etymology of the words but not the full history..

ive tried googling with no luck.. :(

You could try googling etymology, well thought that would work. I like this web site:

Sometimes I will go to book stores and read through them and see which ones I like best.

Look in any etymological vocabulary of an english language (The Oxford Essential Dictionary of Word Histories, for example)
