Holidays - December 2007

This year for Christmas we're doing a gift exchange so that each adult gives only one kid a really nice gift, and in return, each kid gives the adult a HOMEMADE present. I'm 16, so I definitely don't want to make some cheesy craft made out of pipecleaners and googly stick on eyes. I'm making for my aunt, who is a stay-at-home mom. I was thinking about making cookies for her, but she probably doesn't want more food in her house, and it seemed a little too easy, anyways. Do you guys have any ideas of a mature, worthwhile, homemade gift I could give her? Thanks!

I just found out that my daughters kindergarten teacher celebrates Hanukkah. I would like to get her a gift this holiday season, but I do not want to offend her. I do not know anyone who is Jewish, so I 'm not sure what would be appropriate. Any suggestions would be helpful. How do you deal with non muslim co-workers during their holiday season?
for example they have christmas events at work.
my my co-workers are having secret santa present thing..and they asked me this morning If I was going to participate,,you buy a gift to for someone sectretly etc and get a gift in return.
They know I'm muslim but still some muslims do this. This is what I told them.....
'hey you guys know that I do not celebrate christmas,,and I wont participate in the secret santa thing however,,,,,,,my holiday is coming up on the 20th too so we could have a holiday pot luck. they liked the idea and we are doing it.
I do participate in potluck events bring my own dish and of course make sure I dont eat anything that has pork in it.
and we only have to men in my unit....one being a palestinian.
So that helps alot.
so how do you guys try to work and in the meantime be a muslim.
Do you ever face weird situations?

This is the first year ever that I just can't get that Christmas feeling! Ugh it's driving me nuts! We put up the tree, lights, made the gingerbread house, everything! I've tried watching Christmas movies and listening to music, nothing works! It's hard to explain, but normally there's like a smell in the air that gives me a great Christmas feeling. It's just wierd not having that! It's like my mind is with it, but not my heart. Know what I mean? What should I do? How can I get that Christmas spirit? (I am religious so I've also just tried praying and asking God to help me!)

I used to work in retail and have a few friends who still do...and when I worked at the local grocery store we were told NOT to say "MERRY CHRISTMAS" but "Happy Holidays" or "Seasons Greetings" instead.
I have never unerstood this nor did I follow this "rule" regardless of the "consequences"
What is so wrond with saying "MERRY CHRISTMAS"???...
