This year for Christmas we're doing a gift exchange so that each adult gives only one kid a really nice gift, and in return, each kid gives the adult a HOMEMADE present. I'm 16, so I definitely don't want to make some cheesy craft made out of pipecleaners and googly stick on eyes. I'm making for my aunt, who is a stay-at-home mom. I was thinking about making cookies for her, but she probably doesn't want more food in her house, and it seemed a little too easy, anyways. Do you guys have any ideas of a mature, worthwhile, homemade gift I could give her? Thanks!

They have great craft jars that you put in all the ingredients to make cookies or bread or whatever and they just have to add eggs and milk or something else. You put the ingredients in a canning jar and put the recipe on top and you can decorate the jar. It is so easy then to make a treat when you are busy. You can never have too much food when you have kids. Good luck I think this is a great gift exchange idea. Home made things mean so much more than some store bought present.

What about a scrapbook you could predecorate the pages and then she add her pictures? Would be a great time saver for a busy mom. If she's like me I would love to get more of my kids' pictures scrapbooked, but never keep up, lots of predecorated pages already in an album would be so great to me. You could make it a particular theme, maybe kids' birthday, because alot of people who might not take many other pictures, take them on birthdays..... or you could do a year in review them, do a page for January, snowflake themed, February Valentines' themed..... etc etc. You just decorate the album with paper and stickers and then as she takes the next pictures, and then she can add them and a great family treasure and will remember that her niece made it for her!

I think you should make her a certificate. You can do something really nice on the computer, or with nice handrighting and decorated with stickers, or something. Anyway, give her a certificate for some babysitting hours. A stay at home mom will probably not much be thinking of herself and would really appreciate a little time to herself.

How about making brandy "pickled" fruit in a pretty glass jar. Just add fruit, sugar and brandy, seal tight and let marinate. Plums and cherries are good, don't use strawberries they loose their color...
Or get a tall glass bottle, fill with extra virgin olive oil and fresh herbs, eg twiggs of rosemary and thyme.Pretty and useful, can be used for cooking or dipping bread in.
On the fruit. you might have to cook them a little first if I remember correctly, check on line for recipes

I would make her a homemade gift card for an afternoon or evening of free babysitting.Or, if you do not want to babysit, just make the giftcard up for two hours of your time for a service that she needs performed.

Decorative pillows are pretty easy to make. Most fabric stores sell fat quarters. Just get two of them, some pillow stuffing, and sew it together.

Make her a nice Christmas card yourself and say all the beautiful things you see in her. She is likely to keep it forever!
