I just found out that my daughters kindergarten teacher celebrates Hanukkah. I would like to get her a gift this holiday season, but I do not want to offend her. I do not know anyone who is Jewish, so I 'm not sure what would be appropriate. Any suggestions would be helpful. She is a wonderful teacher, and I want to get her a gift just to show my appreciation.

Anything that you would traditionally get a teacher as a gift will do for a Hanukkah gift: A nice set of stationary, pens, picture frames, candles, flowers, etc. Just make sure you wrap your gift for Hanukkah...blue, white, and/or silver...and give her the gift DURING Hanukkah...that means before Thursday!

I'm a teacher and I wish you were a parent of a child in my class!

I can't tell you how many Christmas tree ornaments and other Christmas knickknacks I've gotten over the years!!! And many of these parents knew I was Jewish!!!

In my opinion, you can get her anything at all, as long as it's not for Christmas. So nothing shaped like a tree (I got a tree shaped candy dish one year!) nothing with Santa on it (I've got a Santa shaped cookie jar in my closet - no kidding!) and no ornments!

Anything else is great! ANYTHING else!

Truthfully, as a teacher, the best gift you can give is writing her a nice letter spelling out what you like about her as a teacher and then SENDING A COPY TO HER PRINCIPAL (let her know you're doing this!) I've gotten a few of these and they made my day! (And a nice box of candy is also fine!)

Anything that would normally be appropriate for a birthday or other gift-giving holiday would be fine - just no Christmas decorations or wrapping paper. Blue and silver wrapping paper is traditional, but so long as it's not red and green or Christmas themed, it's fine. I would probably not attempt a Jewish religiously themed gift. Flowers, chocolates, mugs, etc. would all be fine, and I'm sure a "Happy Holidays" card from you expressing your appreciation of her as a wonderful teacher would be appreciated as well.

As a teacher, I would definitely advise a gift certificate to an office supply store. Around this time of year, teachers start running out of supplies - after we use what the school gives us, we have to purchase our own copy paper (expensive!). Plus kids tend to "forget" they borrowed a pencil or pen :)

candy, a bouquet of flowers, something "teacher" related... like a tote bag, mug, etc.
The Hallmark store and the Paper store both have pretty good generic teacher gifts

Something she can use at school. How about a planner, that's something we all can use. There really is no specific Chanukah type gift. I am sure she'll appreciate anything you get.
