I've heard lots of negative things bout them, and im not sure if its a good idea or not. They aksed me to join and i was like i dont know anything about them much, except for wikipedia, but i still dont understand why ppl have to join fraternities, when they can do stuff for themselves and still be happy. I dont know why everyone wants to join one here, is all the talk. To my knowledge, i think its like a gang that sticks together, and works like a gang too. Please gimme some knowledge about them. Ok say in a singles bar and your there to pick up women
Now as im a white man and there is a black woman that comes up and starts flirting with me now is it considered Racism if you turn them down because you dont date black women(note that i dont hate black women but just dont date them) is that considered Racism or Preference

So I am talking to a this guy I know about politics, religion, that sort of thing. And he is obviously leaning a little on the Black nationalist side. He is a young cat, about 20. He called himself hipping me to some real knowledge. But I have already been where he is. I think any black person that really dives into history of black peoples around the world can't help but fall into that militancy phase (you know the one where you reject all things white). He asked me "how do we overthrow the system." Unless we can build a few thousands M1 Abrams tanks and a few thousand f-22's strike fighters (and drive them) we wont be forcibly overthrowing anything.

I told him we stand a better chance of trying to gain power in the existing system than overthrowing it. He says Im a sell out. I say he is just in a phase and to holler at me when he done reading.

What do you think?

At my work place i'm often the only visable minority , im mixed black /white, some people enjoy telling black jokes or black stereotypes and either directing it towards me or saying something racial not knowing i can hear it. They've made jokes about my skin colour, stealing, jokes that are sexual and deal with race, taste in music, hair, crime, and so on. Sometimes it just bothers me, would these white people get upset if i told them degrading racist jokes directed towards white people? If im just being sensitive and its all in fun they why are they not telling racist white jokes? sometimes when they say things it can ignite early memorys of childhood racism, i live in a small city and would be the only minority kid in a class room at school. Im considering moving to a bigger urban center thats multicultural and not unicultural, my friends are all different races and cultures, im into different sub cultures, food, people, religion. racist jokes ok?,

I just want an honest opinion.
If a person not black uses the N word, black people will consider it an uttermost insult, and rigtfully so.
But I dont understand is why blacks say it (especially those "gangsta" personna). Arent they really allowing themselves to be insulted by themselves or is there something that I am not getting here?
An insult is an insult, that shouldnt make it okay for anyone to say it, blacks or not.

Okay I was the other days at a nail salon (yes, I'm metro) and while I was talking to the girl taking care of me I asked her about whether the capital of VietNam was either Hanoi or Saigon. Trying to keep the conversation going. She shook her head when I mentioned Hanoi and emphatically responded with Saigon. Then she began talking with other employees in Vietnamese and next thing I know they're gathered around her. While I don't understand the language, I did pick up the words, Hanoi, Saigon, and Ho Chi Minh. It's not like they appeared angry or anything but I sorta perceived they might've been making fun of me among themselves. So for my question, was the question I asked considered offensive or rude or whatnot among the Vietnamese population? And second, just out of curiosity, what could they've been saying about me?

Why do americans don't like to listen to music they dont understand?..because many people form other foreign countries listen to music in ENGLISH yes in english and they still like it plus they don't understand a word what english songs say...Why are americans so self-centered and never listen to the other wonderful music out there, and it doesn't have to be in english but in spanish, french, italian, portuguese.
Many latinamerican groups try to crossover but they can't beacuse americans don't like foreign language music, whic to make it in the U.S music market they forcely have to sing in english...could this mexican pop group be successul in the american market?...would americans accept them?...is it the type of music americans listen to?..SERIOUSLY MANY GROUPS TRY TO CROSSOVER..could this mexican pop group be a success?

I mean not to eat fish???!!! Yeah sure I can deal with stopping dog fighting and cruelty...but to mess with wut I'm eating is too far. Fish is the cornerstone of asian food aside from rice and noodles(I'm asian, not jsut any asian, I'm filipino)! Where I'm from, fish is the thang!

i have noticed many people are offended when asked what their ethinicity is. I do understand some don't want to be judged by their race, but by their person. But what kind of person are you without an ethinic backround or the history of your ancestors? I love when people ask me my nationality because it sets me apart from many other people. Im still an American, but im more than that. Im a Pacific Islander-American. I like that America is the melting pot of various races. And why arent we proud to say that?

I only use Yahoo answers all day because I have a government job and we do nothing all day but waste peoples money, was just curios if everybody else just wastes time at work here and never logs in at home and I also like run on sentences.

I just saw a report on CNN saying that on average americans work less hours than others. and that in order to compete in the global economy Americans have to work harder.

I visited my parents in Germany and they only work something like 30 hr work week. and they take 2 hour lunch breaks. It seemed most of Europe was that way. Meanwhile back in the states I work at least 8 hrs of overtime every week.

Why are they trying to trick us?
