At my work place i'm often the only visable minority , im mixed black /white, some people enjoy telling black jokes or black stereotypes and either directing it towards me or saying something racial not knowing i can hear it. They've made jokes about my skin colour, stealing, jokes that are sexual and deal with race, taste in music, hair, crime, and so on. Sometimes it just bothers me, would these white people get upset if i told them degrading racist jokes directed towards white people? If im just being sensitive and its all in fun they why are they not telling racist white jokes? sometimes when they say things it can ignite early memorys of childhood racism, i live in a small city and would be the only minority kid in a class room at school. Im considering moving to a bigger urban center thats multicultural and not unicultural, my friends are all different races and cultures, im into different sub cultures, food, people, religion. racist jokes ok?,

Its not your fault they are insensitive pigs. Just tell them this is completely inappropriate, and that you don't make fun of them because they are white. racism is sick, several people fought against it, and it just shows that people can be close-minded about people that are even the slightest bit different. I know how you feel, just ignore them and don't let them bring you down..its exactly what they want. If they completely refuse to stop, and it starts to get difficult its time to turn to the boss. he'll kick some a s s .

I have three sons and they are bi racial. I am black and i have dealt with the very same things you speak of .And more. In 1977 the government implemented forced busing. That's when all the white kids were bused to the city schools which was all black, and the black kids were bused to the county schools which was all white.Talk about a time bomb ready to go off. I remember the school bus rides to and from school. The whites would throw bricks at our buses every morning. They would yell ***-- ers go home. One morning i happen to notice just who were throwing the bricks. It wasn't the kids, but the parents. We have to deal with racism on all levels. Just remember that racism is taught. If we want racism to end, we must instill morals in our children. And most of the time,we don't have to say anything. If you put 2 kids in a sandbox, one black, and one white.....guess what? they will play together. I witnessed this one day, and the white parent who seen her child playing with a black child.....she quickly yelled, jimmy get over here. The seed of racism was planted in little jimmy. Even though he doesn't have a clue yet what racism is, the seed has been planted. Most people are so naive when they make racial jokes. The solution is to raise our kids, free of prejudice. Only then will this world have a fighting chance.

I think that those jokes go way too far. I would be offended and I am one of the most open minded person you will meet. This is in your workplace? I would definitely feel uncomfortable. That does not belong there. If you feel that there is something that you can do, I would look into it. Even if its addressing the issue in a different way that wouldn't single you out even further.

As far as racial jokes go, being from Hawaii, I think its acceptable there in that when we poke fun at and we include all races and often poke fun in our own race. I think to be singled out would be so uncomfortable in any situation.

I'm sorry you have to deal with that. This world is made up so many different kinds of people and I have learned that its a real challenge to deal with them.

as long as they do no longer bypass too some distance they may well be very humorous. human beings take race too heavily, it fairly isn't unavoidably a solid element. sometimes it is alright to make jokes approximately races. it is like communicate of different races is very almost taboo with a lot of human beings. it is thoroughly stupid nevertheless. different backgrounds, cultures, and so on. are incredibly large, and how everyone seem different makes the worldwide extra eye-catching and thrilling. Yeah, racial jokes could be hilarious sometimes. extremely regularly, actual. the only element that annoys me is the way it form of feels a great form of folk think of it is undesirable if a white person jokes or laughs at a racial humorous tale yet different races announcing jokes approximately white human beings is probably no longer seen undesirable. i actual dislike how white each physique is often blamed for such issues. i'm no longer racist in any respect, i admire all cultures, languages, and so on.

It's too far if you are doing it to actually degrade someone or if you don't know the people.

A good joke is fine and I think we all need to lighten up about race and just laugh.

I think in you're situation it's rude and the can get in trouble.

me I grew up in the hood, I'm mixed and always been the white boy and I can make and take a joke.

racist jokes are never ok if they are going to offend someone around you. if you have a black joke that you can't tell in the middle of harlem, if you have a hispanic joke that you can't tell in the barrio, if you have a white joke that you can't tell around white people, then you have NO BUSINESS telling it to anyone, anywhere! i'm sorry you have had to deal with this and just please understand that not all white people are like that. i think the best thing you can do is to go to your employer and explain to them whats happening. most businesses do not want that kind of heat coming down on them so then if it didn't stop i would go to a lawyer. no one in this day and age has to put up with that kind of discrimination.

Don't stoop to their level. You are obviously more mature than they are. My god daughter is mixed & she has had people say racist stuff to her without knowing she is mixed. Some say oh i thought you just has a tan> Still they are racist . They would just hide it if they knew she was mixed. I tell her just pick better friends, they will call her the n word like they are her friend & its ok; She laughs & says they are cool. But to me its degrading, & insulting. Maybe its the new generation that i dont understand. But yeah, just smile & stay away from them you know who is real & who isnt now.

Go to the highest level of management in your office and tell the Director that you feel uncomfortable with the joke, stereotype, etc.

If you have a small tape recorder, tape the conversations and give the tape to management.

I'm sorry this is happening to you. If management doesn't stop it, don't waste your time at the company, look for a new job.

Good Luck.

Those jokes are always funny to ignorant people. It's never funny to hear people make dumb judgments about your race. Usually, people are more comfortable making racist jokes when they're around a bunch of people of their race. I have a friend that acts so cool when he's around my black friends, but soon as he's around a bunch of white people, he's full of all kinds of black and hispanic jokes. I brought it up to him how he's a pussy and won't make those comments in mixed crowds, but he has convenient amnesia. It's usually people that weren't raised around a variety of cultures that find humor in putting down people just because of their skin color.
