I've heard lots of negative things bout them, and im not sure if its a good idea or not. They aksed me to join and i was like i dont know anything about them much, except for wikipedia, but i still dont understand why ppl have to join fraternities, when they can do stuff for themselves and still be happy. I dont know why everyone wants to join one here, is all the talk. To my knowledge, i think its like a gang that sticks together, and works like a gang too. Please gimme some knowledge about them. Than ks

Depends on the collge you go to. At some schools there are tons of frats and sorrorities and if your not a member there's really not much to do and not much of a social life. At schools like that there seems to be a real divide between frat and sorr members and those who aren't. At other schools there's plenty to do even if you don't join. I had some buddies who were in frats and it seemed like they did do some fun things and made some good friends and stuff but it dominates your time. People in frats generally don't have much time to hang out with their friends who aren't. Also, personally I feel like it's kind of paying for your friends and paying for girls and I don't need to pay for either. Totally depends on the school. There's websites that rate schools in different areas and one of thes areas that people comment on is the greek system at a school so you may want to check out what they say about your school. I say be GDI, God Damn Independant. PS. Almost forgot to mention. Basically your first your in the frat your treated like crap, made to do chores and be a slave of other members, also made to do stupid tasks to get yourself in. I know a buddy of mine and all the pledges got locked in the frats basement for a week. Basically not sure why you would volunteer yourself into slavery and abuse.

Gang is the appropriate label for some frats. If you join a service frat that is truly dedicated to helping others then it can be very fulfilling plus it gets you involved with others of like interests. If it is mostly a partying frat count on getting drunk way too many times and getting multiple hangovers.

there are two types of fraternities
1. ones that actually do important things and help ppl connect and also in some cases, earn business contacts and possibly have more success in the future.
2. ones that don't do anything and just party and do nothing important.

THE RIGHT FRATERNITY CAN BE VERY GOOD FOR YOUR RESUMES IN GETTING A JOB IN THE FUTURE.

ONE OF MY SONS WAS A SIGMA CHI AND IT WAS VERY BENEFICIAL TO HIS CAREER.

YOU MEET ALL KINDS OF PEOPLE AND CAN BECOME LIFETIME FRIENDS WHEN YOU JOIN A FRAT.

YEARS DOWN THE ROAD YOU MEET UP WITH A FRAT BROTHER AND IT IS LIKE A BOND. YOU HELP EACH OTHER AND HAVE RESPECT FOR EACH OTHER TOO.

I SAY YES, DEFINITELY.

Sure, why not? But, wait until your sophomore year to make that decision. By then, you'll get to know more people with similar interests as you.

If you like to pay for your friends than why not? but if you don't pay your dues to the "brotherhood" (sounds kinda white supremest to me) you are kicked out. Personally i like my friends to be my friends without any surcharge or harassment.

they are sheep who can't think for themselves, so they join a group of other sheep and only do what they're told.
sounds like crap to me, but that's only my opinion.

live your own life your way, don't be a sheep
