But if you tell someone that s/he has a beautiful African look, it is an insult? Tell someone that s/he has beautiful Italian eyes or a cute Irish face, it's fine, but somehow complimenting ethnic/racial beauty of someone of African descent is wrong to do. Why???

I have been called a bigot because I truly enjoy so much of the art, music, and culture of Africa. I have been looked at with suspicion when I wear African clothes or have African art in my house. I was told by an American Black woman that there is often resentment when whites adopt any aspect of their culture. Why? Why? Why?

I know that my great grandmother was from the eastern regions of china. However even thou, myself have none of these trademarks (my mother and my grandfather did), Even thou i would clarify myself british white, i do have a slight deeper tan skin/yellow pigment to it. What ethnic background box do i tick on application forms etc... ?

I dont want to offend, or be rude. But it has always confused me.

I know you'll all call me a southern, bigot, racist.

But I just want everyone to know that the Civil War ended in the 1860s. and then "reconstruction" raped the South even further.

Not everyone South of the Mason-Dixon Line is bare foot, with three teeth and a shotgun... except my Grandfather.. and he's a Democrat.

I'm not in favor of Slavery, I'm not racist. I'm just sick of being judged by the area of the country that I was born in. How is that any different than being judged by the color of your skin?

I'm from the South and Proud of it.

Ive been trawling through the yahoo answers and find myself wondering why do some people allow themselves to to get so wound up and answer in an aggresive or obnoxious manner.If they respond to a stupid or offensive question do they not realise the recipitent will be laughing their socks at the other end.What Im trying to say is get angry with your keyboard if you like but try to remember you will be laughed at.

Why do more white people descriminate than black? I mean honestly black people are the one who really originated mostly every thing but we get stero-typed by mostly all whites. My neighbour is an Arab and he's really rude and unsociable and he has so many kids, screaming and fighting all day long. His house looks so dirty and messy on the outside next to mine I feel embarrassed to live next door and I think he drags down the good reputation of my street.
He's given me a bad feeling towards Arabs because of how he behaves. I've never personally known an Arab before him so now I think that maybe I am biased towards all Arabs.

This phrase just really bugs me and I refuse to use it. There are very few Africans who have become American citizens but then again they have become an "American." If you were born in America you are an American, period. Making the distinctions like this only perpetuates racism. We don't hear about European Americans, Japanese Americans, China Americans, Russian Americans, Mexican Americans. If we are all created equal then why do we need to label ourselves?

Why don't we get fighting mad, when the Health Industry ignores the Americans who suffer with Heart Problems (Even Children), because they do not have Insurance, But they Will Fly Families here from Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan, pay for living quarters, and Do FREE Heart repair, to their children.? I am a tri lingual person and come from a region of the world where speaking loudly with hands waiving and such ,is a normal thing. yet now that I live in the states I am sometimes accused of aggressive and hostile behavior!

I mean no harm and have researched this and found out that many people who are bilingual behave this way.

has any one ever had this problem? I tell poeple that this is just how I speak and try to sit on my hands or play with something so I dont use them. I have met many poeple who speak quietly but have a tongue that cuts like a knife ,thats how rude they are. but I am a loud speaker and I have a somewhat deeper voice so if I speak quietly no one understands what I am saying.help anyone?
