I often refer to people of color as African Americans. I was just told by an African American that I should stop calling them that because it is stupid and wrong because no one is from Africa and I don't refer to people who originally descended from England as English Americans. She said I should refer to African Americans as black people.

I used to refer to people of color as black people, but one day I was in a college class speaking about MLK and referred to him as a black leader. Another student in the class immediatley scolded me saying, "Don't call us black people! That is racist! To call us black people means you are categorizing us by our skin color which is wrong. You should refer to us as African Americans."

I don't understand why people get so bent out of shape over this. I'm a minority and don't get offended unless someone is trying to be derogratory. How can I reference black or African American people without offending them?

Black people blame them for their problems. Shutup already! They keep saying "minorities or black people need to take responsibility for their own problems and stop blaming the white man" Who's blaming him!!! I am just curious, since lots of people I know who is irish, have red hair. I am even irish, and I have bright red hair (Its natural)

So I am wondering why this is true...I am not saying EVERYONE who lives in ireland have red hair.

I used to live in the Los Angeles area. City by city and neighborhood by neighborhood, as people of color moved in (black people, Hispanic people), the white people all moved out, to the point that there are schools that have no white kids in them at all.

Most cities seem to be this way.

My question is, why do white people leave so quickly just people some people of color move in?

And..... more importantly, what can stop this trend?

Race is a modern idea. People in the past used to identify themselves by their culture, language, etc. Today, it's by the color of the skin. That's what race is. Yes it has caused a lot of problems, that is obvious. So why is race still around. When I take an exam for school, why does it ask me what race I am? So they can say that black ppl score better than white ppl or vice versa? It's just ludacris to me. And why do some races keep holdin themselves back with stereotypes? Example:Black ppl don't swim. How ignorant is that? Because of it, many black ppl don't go in the water because the idea is "crazy!" Oh yea and black ppl and chicken. That's a good one. Cause genetics state that if you are black, sorry, you are just gonna chose Churches Chicken over a burger at McDonalds. Makes no sence to me. Would it just be a better idea to eliminate race completely? I mean what does it matter anyways? Seriously. What does it matter anyways...

I'm not trying to be rude here, I am just wondering. I just saw a question asking how many Black players were in the NHL and their names, and Jarome Iginla is listed. His Father is from Nigeria I believe but his Mother is white, so why is he Black and not White? Same as Halle Berry she was the first Black woman to win an Oscar but one of her parents is white. I am confused.

I would like to say now that america is not the best country, i know there has been alot of arguments about it on here, but i know my country, after all we are the
- Fattest Nation
- We have the most poverty for an MEDC yet we are the richest
- We have a stupid corrupt goverment and country
- We can be very arrogant

I think i am being decent to admit this about my country, but thats how i am, you silly kids have no lives yet you go around saying "USA is the best" pssssh, look at the wars we have lost/ losing, america is the country that most suits me, because i can fit in - i am 310 lbs and fat is a normal thing here, so for me america is where i belong but dont be fooled into thinking that USA is the best country, we suck at alot of things. Indians, Jamacians, Brazilians and a number of different countries have very dark skin. So would it be okay to call anybody with dark skin black? Would it be wrong to call somebody african american when they're really not from africa.
For example, you're describing somebody to somebody else.

I am curious on two points. Number one, the evidence does exist that the Holocaust happened. There is film, there are the buildings that have the gas chambers, there are survivors with the number tattoos for identification in camps (who are also witnesses of the event), former guards at these camps who admit to it, and the remains themselves. How do you still deny it?

Number 2, even after all this if you still deny it that is your choice. But from what I've seen, all those who deny it (like the KKK, the Aryan Union, some--though not all--Muslim groups, Iran president Mahmoud Ahmadenijad) say the Holocaust didn't happen, now we've got to get the Jews. Why does everyone who denies the Holocaust promptly want to start one of their own? It seems you deny it because it is seen as wrong (and you don't want to be seen as such) and then want to commit one of your own, and I don't understand why that is?

Can you tell me why you deny it and also why you'd want to commit a new one?

I've never seen a non-white wiccan or goth. At best maybe a light hispanic. Is it just a counter-cultural thing? By definition, Af-Ams are counter-culture whether we want to be or not, so maybe there's just not the need to dress up differently to prove it.

being an ignorant racist from the south west (just joking) I'd like to know more about ethnic britain. Tbh the first black person I saw in my town nearest to me was about 5 years ago, i swear ten years ago there were ONLY white people, now half the town is owned by indians, we have about three chinese owned chinese restaurants and theres a turk run kebab shop too(yay).
