Serious answers only please. No jokes about America always throwing its weight around, Canada's cheaper meds, that sort of thing.

Imagine you're a non-Latin-American immigrant (since settling in the US would be the easier choice, obviously), and you have a choice of emigrating to either Canada or the States. How do you make your decision?

I am a Canadian born, living in California. Canada has higher taxes. Everything costs more there. But they don't have poverty like in the US. The government takes the money and everyone complains but they have good benifits for the people. I would never move back to Canada simply because it is warmer here, in the southwest. Also, there are more opportunites with employment in the US, but Canada has good employment also. The schools in Canada are very good however and it's not as over populated as the US. I think both countries are the best in the world. But that's just my opinion. They both are good places to live, either way.

That's a great question...I'll do my best to answer. First, Canada is basically a socialist based country, believe it or not. Healthcare is for everyone that needs it...free of charge, it comes out of you taxes. We believe in the greater good in the world and and how we can can help in achieving peace where it needs it. We have always been peace keepers abroad. We have never invaded a country...ever. We resolve our issues through dialogue. Back in 1993, the province of Quebec had a referendum wanting sovereignty from Canada to protect its French culture. Eventually it was voted for Quebec to remain an important part of Canada...what if a state wished to seperate from the US? I should let you know that not one bullet was ever fired during this hard time. If you wish to have a fundamental difference beteween our great nations, I suggest you reant the movie "Bowling for Columbine" by Michael Moore...this would help.

Culture. I'm a European living in the U.S. and I visit Canada a few times a year. I feel more at ease in Canada than here and their lifestyle is almost the same as what mine used to be. That's my point.

Their culture, laws, and politics are similiar to Europe rather then the U.S. For example:
1) The general public believes in evolution.
2) They have a state sponored health care system
3) They have a small military.

From my brief forays into Canada I'd say go there if you know you can get work.

People seem much more...realistic. Generally. They're better educated and it shows.
