I would like to say now that america is not the best country, i know there has been alot of arguments about it on here, but i know my country, after all we are the
- Fattest Nation
- We have the most poverty for an MEDC yet we are the richest
- We have a stupid corrupt goverment and country
- We can be very arrogant

I think i am being decent to admit this about my country, but thats how i am, you silly kids have no lives yet you go around saying "USA is the best" pssssh, look at the wars we have lost/ losing, america is the country that most suits me, because i can fit in - i am 310 lbs and fat is a normal thing here, so for me america is where i belong but dont be fooled into thinking that USA is the best country, we suck at alot of things. Sorry for any typos

We do suck at a lot of things. But speaking as a former resident of Ireland, there's something to be said for good coffee and the unshakable belief that ice in water is not a luxury item.

There is more then just being the fattest country
Corrupt Government
and the most poverty

Lets see........
Our work force os paid a very small amount. So low one cannot live alone. Hence all these people "living together" roomates and what not. Minimum wage is going up to 7 dollars. Woopie. The studies show that to at least scrap by you need to make at least 8.00$ An hour. and most places will never pay that until they have to.

Also we give to other countries more then we give to our own people. We shell out millions of dollars to all these other countries "in need" yet we can't even fix our own problems.

We have to pay for our own health care which is not the best while other countries get it just for being a citizen.

I for one hate the fact that i was born in this counry. I can say i DO not fit in.

Although as far as leaving it makes no sence because we americans causes caoze >spelling< throughout the world.

Shame! on america!

I also have to add some things reading other peoples answers. Land of the free? Land of the brave?

What makes us more free then any other country.

Freedom of speach. No, we have to watch what we say or we will be punished for it. Everything is sensored there is no freedom there.

Freedom of press. Well we all know the goverment control the press so they say what they want said.

Freedom to vote and choose our leader. well look back at the elections when bush went into office all the bull **** that happened with florida. Yeah, no freedom with that either.

Everyone is so caught up in the word freedom it makes me sick.

We are no more free then any other nation in fact we prolly have more rules and stipulations then any one else!!!!

Depends on whether an non-American has been there or not. If the only experience is from the media then a lot of people will consider Americans as burger munching "Dubya" lovers at worst or from the set of 90210 or Miami Vice, neither of which are accurate in any way. For non-Americans that have been there, two types. The ones that have been hermetically sealed in tourism and think America is Disneyland/Epcot Center and those (like me) who have actually been over there for business or other reasons (I was married to one for 22years for my sins, lol). When you are in the position of carrying out normal daily stuff is the culture shock. Having to pronounce things in a way that people understand (including my rather ordinary surname) and other little things like making sure that you don't use idiomatic English which is not understood because the background is not understood. Really the US is an English speaking foreign country with its own culture and government legislation and a lot of people get off on the wrong foot by assuming it's the same as anywhere else particularly the UK. I find that people who go to the US from the UK go in one of two directions. Either they love it and go native or they are driven stark staring mad with "have a nice day" after 10 days there and can't wait to get on a BA flight home. I could (should) write a book on it :-)

I dreaded going to America when my brother invited me there for a holiday. Since Bush got into office, I'd seen the US become increasingly authoritarian, domineering and xenophobic.

Then I spent a month in San Diego County. The people were so courteous (way better than just being polite). One day, I was going through a door at the 7-11 as a biker was coming through. He apologised profusely for being inattentive and, as we each stood aside to let the other though, a third guy grabbed the door and stood aside while we both went through.

On the other hand, San Francisco really was like a European city - just like they say. Two women pushed in front of me while I was queuing for a trolley. I took my place back when they got distracted and they made barbed comments about my rudeness. Then we rounded on another guy who was trying to sneak past us. And that was diversity witnessed in only one state.

But I've seen stupidity here in the UK. Like the one time two US students tried to hi-jack a car because they thought a guy was being mean for not sharing a cab with them. They didn't understand that it was the guy's girlfriend picking him up because the last train had been cancelled.

What Americans and Europeans have to realise is that Bush, Rupurt Murdoch and their ilk have mis-represented the US nation overseas and that they are collectively and individually responsible for those hands across the sea being clenched into fists. The one-trick ponies in TV studios have a lot to answer to. Because they all follow the same formula, I was convinced there would be petty crime an gun crime everywhere. Not a sign of it! I found that all of the people I encountered wouldn't commit a crime because they had respect for themselves and others.

Oh, yeah - what Aeirlys said about the coffee is true. Even with Starbucks now in Ireland, it all still tastes like Nescafe instant coffee.

I am English and have been in the US now for almost 13 years. Yes it has it's bad things and yes the rest of the world looks at America and shakes it's head in disbelief and disgust but it's not like other countries don't have problems. My country has lots of problems as does France, Ireland, Africa, Romania etc.... It's not that America is the worst country in the world it just pushes it's weight around too much and tries to police and infest every other country with the crap it manufactures. America has some really bad stuff but it also has some really good stuff too.
I do agree with you that younger people need to stop, think and get information before they spit out moronic, patriotic nonsense they have been told to believe first.

I visited America (Boston) 5 years ago and didn't know what to expect. I loved it and was treated with the utmost respect by everyone I met. Two things niggled me by the end of my trip though! The amount of food I wasted in restaurants was a sin, the portions are just too large, and the constant requests to repeat what I said, not because I was misunderstood, but because apparently I have the most fantastic English accent!! Minor things and secretly I enjoyed the attention. I would go back, I had a great time! Happy New Year to you all.xx

I really don't know of a PERFECT country.
I know I would prefer to live in England or America if given a choice. I have travelled to many countries so I can say that with confidence. England is fast falling to bits, over loaded with users and abusers. Lets face it, where there is power, there is always corruption, in our government as in yours. We have huge gaps appearing between the rich and the poor once again.
We have generations of kids, with no sports or sports fields, eating crap food, sitting in front of TV and PCs, what happens in America is guaranteed to happen in England within a year it seems.

Don't loose heart, things could be worse, I just really got hacked off with OUR COUNTRY IS BETTER THEN YOURS attitude, talk about playground childishness by cowardly little persons who wage war on the net against anyone who will take notice, how sad is that!

Hands across the pond and all that!!!

If you feel this way about my country maybe you should try another one. I love the USA with all of my heart. It is and always has been the greatest nation under God. I'm free to say and do what I think, unfortunately so are you. When a disaster hit another country Americans are the first to lend aide. I'm 56 years old and I always get goose bumps when I hear the National Anthem played. I sometimes try to imagine Francis Scott Key and he was writing it. My family has clear instructions that if I'm on my dieing bed and they play it that they must immediately crank my bed up. Do I sound like I love America? You're darn right.

American of course is not the best country, but everyone THINK it is. For example, there is a song called California dreaming but London bridge is falling down. My friend has a medical condition living in US but cannot afford to buy a medical insurance, she has to on board a plan to UK to have an operation while she is still internal breeding! NHS is not bad.
