I used to live in the Los Angeles area. City by city and neighborhood by neighborhood, as people of color moved in (black people, Hispanic people), the white people all moved out, to the point that there are schools that have no white kids in them at all.

Most cities seem to be this way.

My question is, why do white people leave so quickly just people some people of color move in?

And..... more importantly, what can stop this trend?

Have you ever been to some parts of town and noticed how junky the houses and yards are? Then look at what type of people live there. Then you will see why some people move out as soon as others move in. They want to sell their house before the neighborhood goes to crap and the property value is worthless. You may also look at the crime rate in neighborhoods where people of color live. Then you will have a clue.

and more imortantly, what can stop this trend?

When a person of color moves to a white community they should become white.

When a white person goes to a black, korean, hispanic... church they are expected to act in the fashion befitting the culture. If a nudist goes into most churches they are not usually accepted with open arms.

when a person of color moves into a white neighborhood they should display the values that are the status quo. its not a color thing despite what the media wants to sell you.

If everyone elses yard is well kept they should keep their yards well kept. if everyone elses company leaves at 9 or 10 p.m then they should turn their parties off at that time as well.

The media would like to make folks believe it is a color thing. for the most part it is not. its a neighborhood thing. Yes there a few Klan hold outs that believe there is a different in the races and that any difference is bad.

In you examples they were all americans persuing the american dream. If the people of color seem to be sharing the same dream then white folks do not move out, they embrace them.

This is a great country and would be even greater if we were all working for the same dream. but as with anything, anywhere there is goodness there will be someone trying to take that goodness away out of shear selfishness.

the more power a media has the greater the power to be corrupting. forget colors. share dreams.

I feel that if certain individuals move into a neighborhood and their lifestyle is disruptive and unsafe to that neighborhood, the people who already lived there for a while have the choice of fighting to preserve their neighborhood or moving away. Usually, it's just easier to move and you don't deal with as much drama.

As for whether or not this is an issue of race, there have been countless talks and a few books written about the concept of "white flight" in which whites move out of an area where minorities begin to move into. This concept is ridiculous when the individuals move out because of the introduction of "color" into their neighborhood when the new neighbors are decent, hard-working and honest people. Those who move out for this reason are simply close-minded and it's better that they go live in areas where they are more "comfortable" so that racial tensions don't erupt. In other words, let the racists move out. Who needs them?

"Birds of a feather stick together." Sociologists, psychologists, and statisticians have discovered this repeated phenomena countless times. But why, one might ask. It has to do with the hard-wiring of the human brain BEFORE birth. There are clear differences among people of different sexes and races, both on psychological and physical levels. A great deal of the human brain's perception of color is used to determine what foods are safe to eat (as is seen with birds eating berries) and reproduction (the brightly colored feathers of a peacock). The list goes on and on. And humans use color perception as well, applied in differing contexts, though.

However, as human beings, society must learn how to effectively deal with these differences in constructive ways. This does not mean that society should ignore its differences, but instead it should recognize them and find strategies to work with one another. One has to understand that color is only one of a myriad of ways in which society discriminates. Little people, tall people, physically-challenged people, ect. - - all of mankind can be classified one way or another, and it would be absolutely foolish to think that by waving a magic wand or by enacting a "law" that the hard-wired biology of mankind will change. The human mind is one of the most powerful objects that the entire universe has ever known. Only by directly addressing the differences truthfully and directly will society find the answers to its problems.

well i am black and it's sad to say but a lot of black neighborhoods are not well kept and white peoples yards look great, i would not want to live next to a black person that does not keep up their yards and have old rusty cars parked on the grass either.

People like to be around people who are most like they are, particularly when someone has kids, as it makes it easier to ensure they grow up with the same social skills and values.

In a practical sense, for better or for worse, home values tend to go down in areas where diversity increases. So, if you want to make money when you sell your house, you have to leave before the values decrease.

Why would you want to stop it? You're assuming its a bad thing or racist, instead of looking at the practical reasons for it. It isn't hatred, its just a preference for being around people who are more like you, in the place where you spend most of your time. That's all.

White people move out because blacks and hispanics bring in noise, crime, immorality, and whites are sick of their neighborhoods being trashed by anyone, the color of their skin doesn't matter. Whites are gonna move when their quiet neighborhood starts to resemble a ghetto. Why should we stop the trend and force whites to live in a neighborhood they don't want to live in. Get blacks and hispanics to behave, and maybe the whites won't leave.

I have had many different neighbors and of all races. Some of the worse ones were white; and who I call white trash. They behave no better than those types who are equivalent in the groups who you refer to as being not as good.

People are people and individuals as well. Not all people of one race, ethnic group, or religion act a certain way. Get to know some people outside of your own group; you will see that there are many decent people of all races and ethnic groups.

Oh, and yes; I am white!

They do? There are plently of schools with only white kids. And, you can't stop people from moving if they want to. How do you know it has anything to do with race anyway?

Because they want to. And why should you try to stop them? I mean think about it, why would you want to live by someone who does not want to live by you?
