I teach in a daycare center. The kids i have in my group run in ages from 2 years to 6 years. I want to began lessons on racism and stereotypes. We had a child come into our program that has pretty much never been around people from diffrent ethnic groups and will only play with children who look like him. How do i go about teaching these children about racism and stereotypes? i mean i know what to say, but i am really stuck on what kind of lessons i can do that they would understand. any ideas?

The English seems to have the most derogatory terms for anyone from another country, why should this be, and is there any other country in the world that could beat this depressing feat.

I'm not saying ALL New Yorkers do but the ones from Staten Island and Long Island talk so harshly. It's not pleasing to hear at all.

Here in the UK there is something called Political Correctness, which is basically people deciding what will / will not offend other. EG Not allowed to say CHRISTmas in case it offends non Christians. Cannot say Black Coffee in case it offends people with dark skin etc.

Does this 'madness' happen in the US? Do people go along with it? Do local offices come up with weird ideas so's not to offend others?

Why is it that we expect people that come live in our country to speak english, and why then when we go abroad on holidays, most of us (not all) expect to be spoken to in english?

I am not native english speaking, I came across a question about how the expression "coloured" people is offensive. No offense, but I thought it was a polite way of referring to black people. I am not native english-speaking, so honestly could you tell me what is the correct term?
I mean, I have heard the term African-American a lot lately, but some black people are neither african nor american.

Question: Need info on UK Culture Circa 1930 -1942?
Deleted Answer: An American asking about culture? Just shows how wrong we Brits can be ;)
MY ANSWER:-
Oh please!
1) This is typical of Americans. They can have a view point, but we cannot!
2) My answer supposed to add a little humour (with a 'U') to the proceedings
3) Was based upon my experiences of Americans abroad (unfortunately!)... Having worked with American citizens in the old Soviet Countries... Typical remark by an American in KIEV, Ukraine...... "Hey you guys need to get some culture here".... Kiev Rus, founded by Vikings over 1000 years ago, conquered by the Greeks (hence Cyrillic Alphabet & Orthodox religion), the Mongols, the Russians, the Germans and the Communist... NOW the Americals who have bought ,,,, MacDonalds!!
Whomever reported this violation, needs to get a life

I mean come on, think about it. We would have everything in common, no hatred, have brilliant white teeth and talk gibberish. Be so superficial but trying to pretend that we are different. Go on Holidays to countires thats just like America. Its like you never stepped foot out of America. We would be 'Normal'. We would wear 'Normal' clothes. Have a 'Normal' culture. Be peaceful and love each other esp the 'President. Hmmm, now doesnt that just sound like a nightmare worse than elm street?

Aren't you sick of answers that aren't really answers? Why doesn't anyone on this site actually ANSWER the question. The answers are always "neither" or "maybe" or a rebuttal question, never definate, never decisivie, never yes/no, never real. Instead it's some crap that make the answer look like, "hey, look at me, I'm thinking outside the box and I'm smarter than you, ha, ha."

Geez, anyone feel the way I do?

I just realised I have more peoples emails than I do phone numbers. I have added all my family and friends, (and by friends I mean people I have met and built relationships with in the real world), on MSN and mySpace. I never really call anyone anymore, I email and IM them. (It's a bit hard to see most of my mates, I just moved 150 miles) But is this lack of real social interaction with the people that we care about going to lead to an antisocial future?
