Here in the UK there is something called Political Correctness, which is basically people deciding what will / will not offend other. EG Not allowed to say CHRISTmas in case it offends non Christians. Cannot say Black Coffee in case it offends people with dark skin etc.

Does this 'madness' happen in the US? Do people go along with it? Do local offices come up with weird ideas so's not to offend others?

It seems ok for everyone to bash Christians and straight white males, but just about everyone else is protected in this country.

Political Correctness is undoubtedly the biggest crock of crap ever to come along. It's worth considering that the whole idea is a response to a minority segment of the various ethnic and religious groups it supposedly protects. Somewhere there's probably a council of malicious morons who could care less about any particular minority or special interest group doing nothing but dreaming up both flattering epithets and forbidden taboos to foist upon an otherwise already well meaning public for no other reason that to see if they can coerce people into adherence.

Personally, I would rather have someone who dislikes me call me an SOB to my face than to be syrupy nice. At least I'd know who to watch out for. I learned my manners as a kid, and I don't need some nondescript body to now begin telling me how to behave. To answer your question more directly, Political Correctness is NOT a problem for me because I don't pay any attention to it. And, if the powers that be don't like it, they can piss up a rope.

Political correctness is an annoyance and the brunt of many jokes, in America.
We have not had the problems that you have had in England, like that poor schoolgirl who was arrested and accused of racism because she asked for a project partner who could speak English.

Although, in America small children have been handcuffed and accused of being violent. The whole violence thing has gone out of control, so that a boy is called violent if he draws a picture of a sword. This is not an exxageration.

Yes. It's the same crap here. The irony is that the things that are most damaging to blacks are allowed, yet people get pissed when someone mentions "watermelon".

Double standards are damaging and political correctness IS racism, even more so to the people that are supposed to be being protected.
