Question: Need info on UK Culture Circa 1930 -1942?
Deleted Answer: An American asking about culture? Just shows how wrong we Brits can be ;)
MY ANSWER:-
Oh please!
1) This is typical of Americans. They can have a view point, but we cannot!
2) My answer supposed to add a little humour (with a 'U') to the proceedings
3) Was based upon my experiences of Americans abroad (unfortunately!)... Having worked with American citizens in the old Soviet Countries... Typical remark by an American in KIEV, Ukraine...... "Hey you guys need to get some culture here".... Kiev Rus, founded by Vikings over 1000 years ago, conquered by the Greeks (hence Cyrillic Alphabet & Orthodox religion), the Mongols, the Russians, the Germans and the Communist... NOW the Americals who have bought ,,,, MacDonalds!!
Whomever reported this violation, needs to get a life

Oooh Kiev, I really want to go there one day. I am planning a 5 week trip to Russia and want to see as much as possible.

Anyway - yahoo discourages humour in this place. We are suposed to basically view this as an academic forum for the discussion of higher things and answer questions on Telford's bridges and Anselm's ontoloical arguments.

Ah well... lets pretend that's what we do and have a good old laugh anyway.

I was in York the other day and an American actually said "This place is sure historic. I bet it must, like, be three hundred years old." He was stood in front of the site of the Roman bath house!

It was stupid to report you, epecially when you ended the answer with a wink, but some people want real answers and not sarcasm. When reporting an answer, theres a bunch of choices that indicate why you are reporting. One of them goes along the lines of 'not a question or answer.' They were probably wanting real info and didnt take kindly (obviously) to your joke. And just to set the record straight:

"This is typical of Americans. They can have a view point, but we cannot!"

The guy wasnt making an opinion...he was asking a question. Americans and their view of culture is irrelevant to your answer being reported.

and...

"Whomever reported this violation, needs to get a life"

The guy was in search of an answer and you took the time to give an answer that wasnt an answer at all...whos the one without a life: the one seeking knowledge or the one answering anything....

Not meaning to be rude, just an honest answer to your inquiry. In short: Obviously it was, or the answer wouldnt have been deleted...they do investigate the reports ;)

Unfortunately, in the times that we live in, some people look out for things to be offended at. These are sort of professional offense-takers. And the really sad thing is that they can be offended by anything, even comments which are clearly not intended to be aimed at them, let alone be offensive. As I understand your comment, it was, if anything, poking fun very gently at the narrow-minded British viewpoint (OK while perhaps reminding Americans of a stereo-type that is often levelled against them). It was clearly not offensive, racist, beyond the pale, etc.

A few years ago an American professor was (apparently) hounded out of his job because he used the word nitty-gritty (in an entirely innocent context). The word is found offensive by some people because it supposedly derives from the detritus found in the hold of slave transport ships, although not all etymologists agree with this. That the innocent use of an everyday word can cause offense just because of its purported derivation (and we are not all etymologists) shows how far this professional offense-taking has come and how ridiculous and dangerous it all is.

I hope that ordinary people agreeing with you at least makes you feel a bit better about it.

I responded to a Q that cheryl B had responded. It replaced right into a nicely suggested answer, and that i reported so. i wager it replaced right into a diverse human being to the mealy mouthed one which has responded on the following. Why do Yahoo solutions enable similar call utilization? i realized yet another 'Muffin' the different day, and idea how both one individuals may be outspoken etc (or worse) about something, and reason confusion to website individuals, now to not say a conceivable embarrassment to the different human being. i'm confident that not many might want to bear in mind an avatar, except it replaced into unique. purely permitting one call, might want to avert any blend-up. It honestly does not be complicated to set-up.

it was just a sh1t, flippant remark instead of a genuine attempt to answer a question. if i see something that isn't a question or answer and is offensive in some way i report it. this wouldn't have offended me but it might have offended someone and as it wasn't an answer you gave a legitimate reason for report abuse. if you want to make a point you should dress it up within a proper answer, then they are less likely to be able to get your answer removed.

I cannot agree more! There are many people around Answers who have not got either a life or a normal IQ. Responses are always reported. I tried to defend one of my answers to yahoo and never had a response. Are they understaffed to look these things a little bit more in depth?

Calm down, my dear one, and have a nice cup of tea. Sometimes the violation is for the silliest things. You should be able to dispute it. I live in Wisconsin and know full well that "some" of my fellow Americans have no overall culture except for that which revolves around the local football team and cheap beer. Please dispute your violation. good luck and blessings.

Does this...because it did not get a violation notice. This answer was sent to me to day.

' Would you buttfǔck your friends mother? Lick her cǔnt? Jerk off and spew Jism in her mouth? Can I buttfǔck your mother?'

This has not been deleted and neither has a similar one that I reported to day. But I intend to write to yahoo as I have had quite enough now. All I was asking is how you burn a CD!
With regards to your question I cannot answer as I am a loss for words.

Sorry if you find my reply offensive but I am trying to show how little fairness and control Yahoo shows.

Definitely not worth being deleted.

You have to be aware, however, that American sense of humour is vastly different from we Brits. I guess they were over-sensitive and saw it as an insult.

Better luck next time, with your quips!

Yes, I'd call that a VIOLATION because you didn't answer the question!!!!!

this is "answers" so provide a freakin answer instead of making personal statements that no one cares or wants to hear unless they asked for it.
