Good for him!!! I think this a great thing and as someone else mentioned on here that there are so many other deserving African Americans of a monument but Mr. King helped get it all started and sometimes its not who's running the race but who lead us to the finish line.

Well, if you look at things more open-mindedly, there are many other memorials that include African-Americans - the Vietnam Veterans memorial, WWII, Korean War, even the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
I guess Dr. King may be the first INDIVIDUAL, but certainly not the first, African-American.
I think since the National Mall is closely associated with him, it's a good place for a memorial.

Success, recognition, and conformity are the bywords of the modern world where everyone seems to crave the anesthetizing
security of being identified with the majority.
Martin Luther King, Jr., Strength to Love, 1963.
I say it's long over due.

I think that it's long over due and I don't believe that African-Americans should get excited when the U.S. offers concessions long after the individual and portions of his family are deceased. MLK, Malcolm X, Medgar Evers, and so many more gave their lives fighting for the same equality that the founding fathers of this nation were fighting Great Britain for. To be hypocritical and deny others the same freedom and vilify those who take a stand often has me questioning this country's moral standards.

I think that the Federal Govt should spend its money on highways, foreign relations, and the things in the Preamble to the Constitution, instead of building monuments that will take tax dollars to build, and to maintain year after year.
Nothing against King, or the Vietnam War, or Washington or Lincoln. Just thinking that the Fed's money could be better spent.

I think that giving one man all the glory is wrong don't get me wrong. Martin Luther king was great but there were other blacks fighting hard and loosing there lives for their equal rights I dinthink they should give one person all the glory because it took more then one person to Stand.

I think it is fitting for him to be the first. His great "I have a Dream" speech was delivered there. It makes sense.

I think its about time. That man helped this entire country.
If it wasn't for him, whose to say if we'd still be separated in school, resturants and other public places.
