I am not British. but I am just going to shoot off the cuff and answer.

keep in mind.. I don't necessarily BELIEVE any of this, but I do think that this is the stereotype...

bad teeth... bad hygeine... rude....thin...smokes...
scruffy hair..."fitted" clothing... drinks....swears...
is artistic... is "fashionable"... deep thinker....
intelligent....boastfull...hates Ameicans...rides a bike

sorry.. not trying to offend. this is just what I honestly think the perception is.

Stereotypes Of British

2017-01-01 11:59:33 · answer #2 · answered by hemond 4 · 0 0

Im English and many of these answers are ridiculously offensive.
Where I live is the North-West and everyone speaks clearly and pronounces their words correctly.
I don't know why you think we all have bad hygiene and teeth because we most certainly don't.
I'll admit, swears are used frequently and said as if they were normal language but that does not mean we can't talk properly, we simply use those words for emphasis.
And yes, we like to drink and smoke a lot but thats only a certain amount of people, and even then, theyre not all binge drinkers or chain smokers or drug addicts.
To be completely honest, I know Americans and Canadians that take more drugs and smoke more than the usual English around here.
We also complain a lot but so does every other person in the whole entire world.
I feel you are basing over 60 million people in Britain by a small group of chavs you have met or seen on the television, which to me is very wrong because everyone I know who are from Britain are polite and clean and lovely.

I've talked to a couple British people, and to be honest they are really not at all the sort that we think about. One of many stereotypes is that Brits always wear suit and tie, driver hats, and a nice driver cap, and always seem to have a pipe in their mouth. That's not at all what I think, just saying that;s what a lot of people said.

Canadian here.

Stereotype: emotionally unavailable; smart; bad hygiene; mostly polite; bad communicators; presumptuous; spoiled; unaware that they're racist; nice dressers; bad skin; cool accents; terrible accents; extremely "whitey"; loyal; undisciplined/lazy.

Of course not all fit the stereotypes but keep in mind stereotypes exist for a reason and Brits need to own up to theirs (which they often don't ... just saying).

I'm from Malaysia and we were under British rule until 1950's and we still follow most rules set by British Government those days in terms of education etc. As for the people, i think British citizens are friendly not snobbish, but there are few in any country for that matter that spoils the outlook of the country. Self cleanliness is important and i do think there is a lacking there, but anyhow i love football and i do fully support the Three Lions when they are on national duty. My sister studied in Bristol and i have another sister in Glasgow. Love ya!!!!

I am british, but from an American friends perceptions - upper-class, tea-drinking, polite and witty, 'posh' accent and part of a VERY small country e.g. we should all know Prince Charles!

U.S.A. citizen: I found that people tend to look at the British as a bit snobbish & formal.

However, I recently returned from the UK and I would say that is not so. I had a great time and met many wonderful people.

I am Greek. The stereotype of English people here is that English people are quite cold (not very passionate and so on), have bad food, and men are gay. I don't mean these as an insult, and I don't share these opinions, because I've lived in England and I appreciate english humour, culture and people - and food. You just wanted to know. By the way, Greek people despite all of the above, like English people, I mean they think much worse things for their fellow Greeks!!!
