They can use their own numerical system when they're talking to their own countrymen.

But I've noticed that even when they're speaking English to people of OTHER nationalities, they use "crore" (10 million) and "lakh" (100 thousand) and expect everyone to know what these are!

Why don't the Indians understand that "crore" and "lakh" are words in their own languages, not in English? Even if they are used in English in India, they're called "dialectal terms" at best.

In Chinese, we use "wàn" to refer to 10,000 and "yì" to refer to 100 million. But we'd NEVER use these terms in English. In English, they're "ten thousand" and "one hundred million". There's a distinction between languages.

Do Indians honestly believe that Britons and Americans use "crore" and "lakh" too? Because South Asians are the only people in the world who do :-)

(Just as we East Asians are the only people who use "wàn" and "yì" and variants, e.g. "man" and "oku" in Japanese.)

Just curious, If I were to go to the neighborhoods you just lived in and tried to find an apartment, or walked as freely as you do in my neighborhood how welcome would I be? or can you be honest about it?

Do you think it is good for today's kids that are listening to it, or do you think it glorifies bad things? I'm interested to hear your take...

I come from a Northern European country and my English is fluent. I've lived in the suburbs of a major US city for 2 years now but I really don't seem to fit in, even though I try. I find the food servings far too large, heavy and fattening. I think the majority of network TV programmes is too bland and aimed at a low IQ level. The news almost seems censored with its US-centred view of the world. I also think most people I seem to meet are rather naiive and parochial with their view of their country and the world. But I want to try... how can I be more American?

It always seems like this question is always dodged by pro-immigration (illegal immigration, that is) activists. I have yet to hear a sensible response to this question.

Women say they dont like men who are passive , or shy . Or are too interested in getting in their pants . It would seem however if a man has those qualitys they would date him . Before choosing a guy who would help with house keeping for example ??

In the seventies, my older brother would smoke pot about once a year (on his vacation). He told me he had to stop alltogether because he would get a thc hangover the next day.
I thought he was crazy.
That is, untill I started cutting way down a couple of years ago.
Now, I smoke so seldom, that when I do....guess what? I get a terrible hangover the next day....sinus headache and all.
I have reached the conclusion that you have to smoke pot on a regular basis or not at all. I have decided to do the latter.

Browsing through this site, there are a lot of questions concerning sex, penis size, race, ect.

This is what I heard in real life (rumor, friends, ect.). So people can accept who they are and move on to other subjects.

Blacks - Known to the largest penises and very smooth and confident.

Whites - Known to be very attentive and give great oral pleasures

Asians - Known to have the hardest penises and are great at foreplay

Latinos -Known to be very passionate and high energy

Everyone content with their respective sexual labels.? Positive comments only. No bashing. Anyway, we are all human.

Every forum I visit seems to have a significant minority of Scottish posters. Am I imagining this? Or are Scots more likely to post on internet forums? If so, why might this be?Is their voice perhaps not given sufficient vent in conventional media?

.. .this terminology would only apply to Americans. If the black person is from, say, England or France or anywhere other than the U.S., what would be the proper terminology?
This question is from pure curiosity - no ill intent presented. I've just wondered this from time to time, and decided to put it to the question.
Thanks.

I live in Sturgis and have for about the last 12 years, every year hundreds of thousands of bikers and vendors and just random passersby are drawn to this weeklong event (more like 2 weeks if you ask me with all the crowds). My opinion of this rally is very harsh and I don't like having to adjust my life around this event that I don't even want to be a part of anymore. I know you are saying why don't you just move away and I would although it is not that simple, my whole family including my wife's family live here and life would probably be made hell for me because it would be my idea to move. I just want everyones opinion of this event positive or negative and if you have even heard of it.

Today is the hottest of the summer and I've heard reports as high as 117'F at some friends houses. Now this is all fine and dandy when one has a gorgeous central A/C unit sitting atop the place but thousands of years ago there was no such things. What techniques did local tribes like the Gila and the Pima do to keep themselves cool? (Aside from the obvious shade and water)
