i've always heard about carny's at the carnivals being bad or not the kind of civilized type people you would hang out with. is it true or just a bad rap?

Probably just a bad rap mainly, I'd assume that they just need money and everybody who walks by is a potential dollar..

Carny's have a culture all their own and they like to think they're tough. When I was trampin' I needed money so went to work for SJM fiesta shows out of fontana. They were setting up in Imperial for the southern California state fair. They tried to be tough with me to show me they were as tough as a biker. Two weeks after I went to work, I was top man on the show.

i have worked with a few carnys some of them are bad just with the fair because of warrents in various states get paid cash police can't catch up to them but some of them are just everyday people trying to make a living.

the lifestyle of a carnie is not mainstream - they travel from town to town with carnival and have no settled home. They tend to look like biker dudes - tatoos, beards - and they like to con you into playing their rigged games.
