The Millennium Goals, as expressed by the United Nations, are as follows:

1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
2. Achieve universal primary education
3. Promote gender equality and empower women
4. Reduce child mortality
5. Improve maternal health
6. Combat HIV/AIDs, malaria and other diseases
7. Ensure environmental sustainability
8. Develop a global partnership for development

Do you think we collectively have what it takes to achieve them? What do you think it will take?

He is a great kid! He is gifted with straight A's and good at sports. He hangs around a great bunch of kids. However, he takes things for granted. I thought that maybe seeing things that are out there in the real world might help make an impression on him.

I have decided just recently that my life (forgive the dramatics here please) completely lacks meaning and is without any apparent usefulness. In an effort to change that, to make me feel better about myself and, to serve a purpose to others I have decided to join an international volunteer organization. However upon searching the internet I have found that most of these organizations require a large payment before you join, some require a college degree, and I am over the age limit for some (I am twenty-five)
I have no college degree, so that rules out the peace corps, I am over age for many other organizations. The biggest problem is I am below poverty level myself so i can not afford the cost of joining many others.
I need to know what options are open for me. I want something long term (a year or more) that supplies lodging and food, I assume this would be some sort of government operation but am not sure. I see this as a life changing oppurtunity. But how do I join?

I tried doing a search on www.miamidade.gov and couldn't find a site. I also tried just looking for logical links on the page to no avail. I did searches on Yahoo and Google with variations of Miami Dade Food Stamps & Applications. Ironically the first hit is an article on how no one applies and they have surplus. They said it's a study that some may not like the stigma associated it, but maybe folks just can't find the site, lol. If anyone has any info, please let me know. Any informatioin that you can offer will be appreciated. -M.

Half the world – nearly three billion people – live on less than two dollars a day. Eradicating poverty in our world will take dedication and creative thinking. What ideas do you have to contribute to the solution?
