I know how to go abt pledging my eyes...what I wanna know is if anyone of you know someone who has benefitted from such surgery...and if you know of anyone, then how are they coping with their surroundings with the additional input of visual stimuli...Are there any drawbacks to having ones eyesight restored?

First of all you need to list yourself as an Organ Donor and have that put on your driver's license. MAKE YOUR WISHES KNOWN TO YOUR FAMILY!!! Also, I suggest you write a living will.
I know 2 people who have benefitted from the surgery and the only complication was the adjustment back to being sighted again, which was easily treated with physical and psychological therapy. Both are very happy with their "new" sight.

Nearly everyone can be a tissue donor. Eye tissue can be used even if a donor is older, wears glasses, or is visually impaired. In fact, eye donations can even be made by people who are blind, as long as their blindness was not caused by corneal disease. Tissue donations cannot be taken from people who have: an infection in the blood known as sepsis
cancer
tested positive or are at risk for HIV

No one can transplant a whole eye to get vision back. You can donate a cornea but not the whole eye. the retina is a part of the brain and no one has found how to repair/replace it yet.
