I've heard many people say that "This is America. You can't force anyone to do anything." I don't think it's true.

Examples?

Why do people worship a "God" who would kill millions who do not follow him, with floods or fire rained down from above, but those same people will cry ‘Madman’ when a country's leader eliminates millions?

My younger brother, who I shall call 'Joe', seems pretty depressed most of the time. Granted 'Joe' is a teenager and seems to be going through the whole 'rebelious' stage and seems to be lost in finding his way in the world... At least, I think. He doesn't talk to me or the rest of our family much. It could be just some 'stage' he's going through, but I still worry about him at times.
I'm a Christian and when I told him that religion helps me when I'm sad or feeling lost, he told me that he has tried talking to God, but because his situtation hasn't improved imediately, he seems to have rejected religion (as far as I can tell, as like I said, he doesn't talk to us much). He seems to have lost faith in any sort of religion or philosophy, which makes me worry.
What should I do? How can I help him? Or should I just let him be and hope he can work out whatever his problems are on on his own?

It was so bizarre! I was walking down the road to my Dad's old farmhouse--turned around and there was a tall cowboy behind me!! Had on black boots, black jeans, white shirt and a black hat! I was scared at first when I turned around--then figured out it was my brother--but in real life he was "retarded" and small and crippled. In my dream he just hugged me, said he was okay, and told me to keep walking down the road. I didn't want to, I asked him if I could go with him and he said not now. What in the world is this!!??

Yes its true. The word of the Goddess Herself. Women were created in Her image first. Then later, as an after thought, She created men from women's hipbone. Satan later in the form of men, rewrote the Bible and added all those lies that people now read. Keep posted. I'll let you know when the real Bible is ready for publication.

Jesus is the most inspirational to me, and I pray daily for humility and faith that I can be an example of Christ, and follow his teachings. However, there are also imperfect people in the scriptures, who have inspired me because of the growth they've experienced after trials, or because their lives were similar to my own. What everyday people can you relate to in the Bible, and why?

A person is born. This person is brainwashed by their illiterate, ignorant, and bigoted parents into believing that life is meaningless except to worship an all-powerful hypocrite (who could make the world a better place with a snap of his fingers, but chooses not to) and preaches to the people who enjoy their life about how they must repent for their sins and accept this deity or burn in hell after death, and then this person wastes their entire life preaching and not enjoying their life, thinking they will live in heaven with said deity but when they die they just die, and their whole life was wasted.

Sound familiar? This is why I feel pity for the fundies on here who say "the meaning of life is to serve God and decide whether you get into heaven or hell" or "Jesus is the only thing that matters, everything else is second" and all this is based on a contradictory, ignorant, and prejudiced religion that is 2,000 years old.

Is this sad, or would you enjoy the above life?

Ok, let us be honest. There is plenty of SUPPORTING scientific evidence for both creation and evolution, but absolutely no concrete evidence for either, (and absolutely NO feasable evidence for the big bang). Consider this, though: according to scientific law everything must have an origins, a beginning and an end. In the event there is no creator, no matter how you try to explain it, either the laws of science become flawed and irrelevant, or our universe is unexplainable and should not exist. However, if God is real and created both our universe and our concept of science, this would mean that he existed before science and is not, himself, subject to its laws.

I had the opportunity to take a Philosophy course and the professor and the book addressed religion as mythology. I was surprised at the beginning, but I got to recognize that it makes sense. The Greeks worshiped Zeus. The Romans worshiped Apollo. We now know that Zeus and Apollo are part of the world's mythology. Religion today is like religion in the past. So, what do the experts (philosophers, historians, archeologists) know about religion that we the normal people do not know? Scientists use evidence to prove their theses, so if they say religion today is mythology, what evidence do they have to prove that? Do they know Jesus existed? What do they know about how Christianity started? etc.
What I want to know is if scientists have historical facts and evidence that we the normal people don't know.

Religion is a state that provides comfort to the human mind. So everything is an illusion? I guess so.

Do you think religion today is modern mythology?
