I live in the bible belt. I believe in ghosts, including the Holy Ghost. What is strange is that most, not all mind you, but most, of the religious people here do not believe in common ghosts and hauntings. These people that I speak of believe that the stories in the bible happened exactly as they are written, and take everything within the pages literally (like the parting of the sea, pillars of salt, etc). So I asked, how can you believe in the Holy Ghost, that a man parted the sea, and that people turned into pillars of salt, but not believe that ghosts walk among us? They never know what to say after that. Anyone here believe in God, but not ghosts and haunting? If yes, tell me why you believe in one, but not the other.

In England, I'm noticing more and more that people have trouble talking correctly. Phrases like 'I ain't done nothing' and using 'ain't' instead of 'haven't' and slang such as 'innit' makes my skin crawl. Is the English language getting worse? Am I just a snob, or does this irriate other people?

I am a christian who was once a Young Earth Creationist. After examining the evidence, I determined that the earth is not 6,000 years old and took on a theistic evolutionist view. In other words, I believe that God created us, but used evolution to do so. I believe that Genesis is an allegory, and is not literally accurate.

I still believe that the bible is the word of God, and was inspired by same. But that doesn't make it a science book. My faith in the bible wasn't shaken at all.

Don't respond with a plea to convince me of the literal creation story. I am very well versed with all of the creationist arguments, and they are simply bogus.

What I want to know is if there are people out there who examined the evidence with an objective mindset, like I did, but found themselves losing a little faith in the bible because the literal creationists try so hard to convince everyone that the bible must be interpreted their way, meaning literally instead of figuratively.

One evening, about three years ago, I was working at my job and the manager wanted me to go to this bible study. I didn’t want to, but I did it anyway. It was about 12:00 at night. It was just this boring prayer thing going on, and I wanted to leave. I went home in a bad mood and I watched a movie in my dad’s study, which I had to turn off about midway through, and I went outside. As soon as that door opened up, I immediately had a weighted feeling sweep over my entire body, as if someone was there. It was the WEIRDEST thing in my entire experience. I physically knew for a fact that God was there; RIGHT THERE, in front of me. I wept for about an hour and went to bed.

The next morning, I felt like a solid tungsten block the size of a house was taken off my shoulders. There was an unusually visible stream of light coming into my bedroom and I knew it was a miracle. Something happened that night that changed everything for me; I was happy for the very first time.

I mean, if I knew that you would believe I am God if I guessed what hand you had a marble in (and already knew it was the left), then all I would have to do is say exactly what you wanted to hear. That Jesus was definitely an opportunistic guy!

Do some people really not get that the Quran teaches its followers to kill all who do not believe as they do and that the Bible does not teach Christains to kill people. We are to live by the new law of the New Testament. Jesus never taught violence towards others.

I am trying not to make blanket generalisations but my experiences over the past two weeks are making me feel this. I have been advertising my MP3, TV and DVD combi and designer boots on Ebay and another wesite and so far have only experienced responses from Nigerian people. If the item is £45 they want to give me a cheque for £2000, then they want to send a courier to collect the boots and for me to pay the difference from the £2000 in cash to a third party.
Evidently this is a 419 scam but these email responses have been so numerous, all wanting me to post my items to Nigeria under similar conditions, and I've become somewhat angry about it all now.

Why is this activity so widespread in this country? I posted a question on an African website and the response was "learned behaviour", "poverty" and "British oppression" none of which I fell for. Anyone got any suggestions as to why this is so widespread here. Of course, I understand that it also goes on in many other countries....

Please explain to me how the Law of Conservation of Angular Momentum (something that falls off a spinning object always spins in the same direction) correlates with Venus' and Uranus' retrograde rotation (spinning backward). Try real hard to use science.

What exactly do Muslims believe to be the Holy Word of God? Is Mohamad's words of Mohamad or of God? Jesus's words are God's Words. Jehova's (Yahweh's: Jesus's) words are Gods' Words. The words in the Old Testament are God's Words. How can a Muslim say he believes in the "book" if the book is not God's word? why is the Quran put above the Bible?

In England, I have found that people have no manners to speak of. People never thank the driver when they get off the bus, no one thanks me if I hold the door open for them. I get barged past without an 'Excuse me'. And what happened to the phrase 'You're welcome'? What do you think of manners or the lackthereof in this country?

What does the Qur'an say about Jihad?

The Qur'an is the single most important authority in all of Islam. It is the scripture given from Allah through the angel Gabriel. Does the Qur'an teach Jihad? Absolutely yes. As you will see in the following quotes from the Qur'an, Holy War is definitely taught and encouraged.

"Truly Allah loves those who fight in His Cause in battle array, as if they were a solid cemented structure" (Surah 61:4).

"Fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you but do not transgress limits... 191And slay them wherever ye catch them. and turn them out from where they have turned you out; for persecution is worse than slaughter; But fight them not at the sacred Mosque unless they (first) fight you there; But if they fight you, slay them. Such is the reward of those who reject faith. 192 But if they cease, Allah is oft-forgiving, Most Merciful. 193And fight them on until there is no more persecution. And the religion becomes Allah's. But if they cease, Let there be no hostility except to those who practice oppression" (The Qur'an, Surah 2:190-193).

"O ye who believe! what is the matter with you, that, when ye are asked to go forth in the cause of Allah, ye cling heavily to the earth? Do ye prefer the life of this world to the Hereafter? But little is the comfort of this life, as compared with the Hereafter. Unless ye go forth, He will punish you with a grievous penalty, and put others in your place; but Him ye would not harm in the least. For Allah hath power over all things. Unless ye go forth, He will punish you with a grievous penalty, and put others in your place; but Him ye would not harm in the least. For Allah hath power over all things," (Surah 9:38-39).
