Some people are stimulated by visual events. Overall, men are more like this than women, according to various serious studies of behavior.
Porn is a tool of stimulation for some people, and a substitute in other people. Other people are embarrassed, irritated or outright offended by visual or verbal depictions of sex ("pornography" was originally only in the written word). In many parts of the world porn is forbidden by law and those who possess or create it can be punished severely. Most societies - even those that tolerate pornography - have laws restricting certain types, such as bestiality or kiddie porn. This among other things describes behavior those societies do not wish to endorse or encourage, particularly through visual stimulation. I am not either condemning or encouraging porn at all in this post, by the way - the poster asked a good question that deserves an unemotional answer not tainted by ideology.

the better question is why don't some people watch porn? its always the uptight people that really need to get layed that don't watch it, it seams.

seriously...people lare curious about things which are which is considered taboo..here in india people don't talk about sex, we consider it shameful... so we watch porn and settle...that is safer...so they think
