Jesus was with God before the beginning. He knew exactly what was to come and because he loved us so much he asked to be allowed to do this. HE KNEW WHAT WAS COMING......
How is that a con? He laid down his life for us. No love could possible be greater than the one who died for you...
DUDE????
God bless & hugs from Texas. {:-)

That was a good question ... until I got to the second part, anyway.
Jesus' self-consciousness (whether He knew He was the Son of God) has been the subject of debate among theologians for centuries.
I'm sure that Jesus did not know about the prophecy saying that He would be born of a virgin mother in Bethlehem -- at least not until He was old enough to read it in Scripture.
So, there's no way that this event could have been part of any "con."
And even if He knew about His prophesized crucifixion, I doubt that He would have gone along with it as a "con." Do you know anybody who would willingly allow themselves to be nailed to a cross for such a reason?
Presumably, Jesus knew of the Old Testament prophecies about the Messiah because He was no doubt very well versed in Scripture.
Whether He knew that these prophecies were about Him is another story. That's where the issue of His self-consciousness comes in.

Yes he did have prior knoweledge. In the garden of gethsemeni it says that he cried out to God asking if there was any other way besides the cross. Of course there wasn't, but he gave himself up willingly as a sacrifice for us. It also shows him talking to his deciples about what he was about to do and fulfill.
Mark 14:22-24:
While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take it; this is my body. Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, and they all drank from it. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many," he said to them.
Mark 14:28:
But after I have been raised I will go before you to Galilee.
Mark 14:36:
"Abba, Father," he said, "everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will."
I do not see how this would be the greatest con ever pulled though

The prophecies telling of what the Messiah would acomplish had been around since Moses' time. About 1,300 years before Jesus.
But he didn't fulfill any of those.

Yes, Jesus was well versed in the scriptures of the Old Testament.
As for viewing His life as a con well that's just something only you can contend with. It's your choice, Jesus had to be either Mad, Bad or exactly what he claimed to be, the Son of God.
Luk 11:9
And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. (KJV)

God is all-knowing and omnipotent and Jesus is 1/3 of God, so he probably knew about 1/3 of the prophecies beforehand.

that is what prophesy is, God knowing and sharing the future events with men, telling us befor hand what will happen, what well do. being Gods Son Jesus knew all before time began. the truth is ask Jesus into your life and be born again by the power of the Gospel (an actual real life event in your real life) if you do this in a prayer sincerely God will answer you!

yeah, he did know about the prophecies, not because of him being a con, but as the son of God. And God knows everything, even you calling his son a con.

Jesus studied and quoted the old testament often in the temple while preaching.
Read Isaiah especially, and Psalms.
