I am not refering to any mental disorder or physical sickness, what i mean is why are most humans (Id say at least 99%) sick enough to cause suffering of any kind. This could be burning insects alive, eating factory farmed meat, sentencing someone to life in prison. No one has compassion...Why?

A social norm is a widly acceptable but often unspoken standard for appropriate behavior.

I need an example on how to BREAK a social norm. The teacher gave us an example - at the supermarket, standing in line and randomly singing. Singing in line at the supermarket is something out of the ordinary and something you don't see everyday when going to the supermartket

Does anyone have any other ideas on how to break a social norm? thanks!

I think the majority of us live a unatisfied life. But to a very large extent it is not in our hands. We dont get want we want. To say that be satisfied with what you have is all just theory and impractical. All the literatures are waste. It only confuses us more. The world would have been a better place if we dont have these religions, rituals and customs. I personally know of a family who are so simple and not rich but just existing. But so much love flows inside the family and children brought up by them become gems in the society. They are not famous or great scientist or doctors but simple and Normal humans.
They are not bothered about the future. They live happily every moment. Nowadays many of us are not normal in our behaviour... We are depressed, sad, angry, uncontrolled emotions etc... Hardly anybody's face glows with joy. But then we are educated, doctors, engineers etc... but we live a very dry life. May be this is my story only. But i would like to clarify from others.

And why?

I'd like to go back to any Wednesday when I was at university! We never had any lectures on a Wednesday afternoon so we'd just go in in the morning, meet somewhere for lunch and then go shopping or sit in the park if it was a nice day. Then we'd come home and get ready for a night out! Wedneday nights were always the best student nights. Everyone would come round to our house and we'd drink til about 11 then go out! Had some great nights! I'd love to go back to that time of not having to care about work the next day!

Can you please list some examples of how they help and, if known, the agency that helps. For example, The Psychological Disorders Clinic in New Hampshire helps cater to African-Americans by outreach in their churches or helps cater to Mexican population by having Spanish-speaking interpreters within the agency.
I need some examples to include in a presentation. Any agencies within the U.S. would be helpful.
Thank you!!!

I come froma culture where before god, comes before your mother. You must respect and love your mother more than anything in the world. Its been drilled into my head by religious teachers since the third grade. But since im first generation american... i am hating my mom.. It started off with me just getting angry at her for not letting me do things. But now, everytime she speaks, i hate it. I always wish for a better mother. But god freaking stuck me with this one.. But since i hate my mom so much. Im really depressed... can somebody help me? Is this a normal thing for teenagers, or is this the beginings of a serial killer?

I have already asked about my man's nit picking and name calling, etc. But now I am so hurt. There are so many things he has taken away from me. I love to sew - he threw my machine and broke it. I love to cook - he's such an a** (nitpicking every thing I make) that now I don't derive any enjoyment from doing it. And the latest - I love to work on my yard. I've spent countless hours filling holes, mowing, landscaping, etc. He has a few buddies over and decides that they need to have a bonfire so he digs a hole to burn wood. I told him I will not be mowing the lawn this year (8 hours a shot with a riding mower) and that the yard is now his responsibilty. He won't keep it up - I know this. If it is not mowed down then we have to worry about snakes so my children cannot go outside and play. What do I do? I want a nice yard - I enjoy working on it - but if I do then I feel that I am saying that his blatant disregard for my feelings is okay. He just does not get it!

and i dont mean someone trying to rule the world. Someone who thinks that there really isn't a purpose for humans to exist, and that the earth, would be better being given to animals and nature to rule. They also think that humans are always screwing each other over for their own benefit. Also they don't bother looking for a spouse, because sexual attraction is nature's way of tricking humans to do its dirty work (pro-create).That person isn't a megalomaniac, so what are they?

How can I ever get over being called stupid by my father? He called me stupid and I know he was just projecting his insecurities about his own intelligence, and several people have told me that I AM intelligent, but....I still feel that people will call me stupid. It takes a lot of guts for me to even post a question or answer here because I'm afraid some thoughtless jerk will tell me how dumb I am. It's already happened today, which brings me to where I am now. I feel like living like this is no life to live, and I wish I could die.

My psychology instructor gave us an extra credit assignment. I would have to violate a social norm. The problem is that I don't like attention from strangers and I pretty much keep to my self in public places. I do, however, work in an elementary school and have a daughter and niece that I would feel comfortable enough to do something silly in front of.
