I think the majority of us live a unatisfied life. But to a very large extent it is not in our hands. We dont get want we want. To say that be satisfied with what you have is all just theory and impractical. All the literatures are waste. It only confuses us more. The world would have been a better place if we dont have these religions, rituals and customs. I personally know of a family who are so simple and not rich but just existing. But so much love flows inside the family and children brought up by them become gems in the society. They are not famous or great scientist or doctors but simple and Normal humans.
They are not bothered about the future. They live happily every moment. Nowadays many of us are not normal in our behaviour... We are depressed, sad, angry, uncontrolled emotions etc... Hardly anybody's face glows with joy. But then we are educated, doctors, engineers etc... but we live a very dry life. May be this is my story only. But i would like to clarify from others.

You're afraid, just like the rest of us. Fear is how we are ruled here in the states. Fear of judgement to be precise and yes you are correct with your thoughts about religion, it is the device. The conflict in your mind is your instincts wanting to be free, the animal if you will. Unfortunately for all of us individual liberty is not a product of civilization. I guess the closest that you could get to it would become a member of the homeless and become a caveman.(I do not judge them I sometimes envy them.) Or you could just accept that some pain is necessary for civilization to succeed. Yes I know that hurts and is depressing. Is it out of our hands? As long as one soldier exist on earth you have no choice but to have yours.(religion)

However many year's you have lived, you seem to me to be quite wise.

Sam Levenson the comedian wrote a book about his happy childhood. He called it "Everything But Money".

That appears to be the 'disconnect between personal prioritized and reality-based value systems and the state'
rulers interferences in betrayal of our lives. Where scientific definitions are forbidden or ignored, or even falsified, there can be no real rights. The marketplaces in which human adults interact--goods and services, hiring and idea-level leadership attainment, elected and appointed public service--and the idea markets that are their foundation all become poisoned.

Just today an article pointed out that wealth had no real connection with intelligence--that even if a genius earned 6,000 more a year, which he probably wouldn't be permitted to do at present, it was no gaurantee who could parlay his intelligence into increased safety, happiness or control over his destiny.

Public-interest totalitarianism is not liberty; interest-group handouts are not rights; infallibility-spouting unrealistic postmodernism is not national leadership and an imperial presidency is not constitutional regulations, laws or a basis for happy lives.

I especially like what you said about "being satisfied with what you have being a fraud. It doesn't mean one can't do with a little privation in order to get where you want to go; but if you're not being allowed to get where you deserve to go, then such denial, temporizing or self-recrimination becomes a part of your enslavement, no longer a virtue.

Most likely the majority of the human race doesn't live a satisfactory life in terms of peace of mind, I don't really know this for sure, but it sounds reasonable from what I have seen, but except for some rare cases to say that it is not in our own hands only shows me why you are not satisfied.

No one is 100% satisfied. That would be stupid. But confusing a drive for excellence or short term set backs as being all your life is the mistake. If someone asks me if I'm completely satisfied with a this task or another, most likely the answer would be not completely, but for the most part I'm satisfied that I did the best I could, and in lots of cases that no one could do better. I'm proud of my work, I'm satisfied with my work, because I know the world to be what it is, and what time is, and know that nothing is perfect, but that isn't the point of life for me. The point is understanding that I did my best and my best is helping.

As for the material kind of being satisfied with. Well sure I'm like most people and would like this or that, but I know plenty of people that spend like there is no tomorrow, but that never satisfies them. Satisfaction does not come from these things it comes from you. I'm satisfied with what I have because I choose to be satisfied. Everyday you have a choice, and I'm not going to tell you what you should or should not be satisfied with. I personally am not ever satisfied with a bad job, I certainly wouldn't want someone telling me not to do the best job I can. I will not tell you to be satisfied without your plasma TV. What you are satisfied with or not is up to you. But I will tell you something. No one has everything and if you want everything to satisfy your self then you will be this way for ever and that is sad. If you think what you want is reasonable then I say why do you not go for it? Oh yeah you might not achieve what you want, but maybe you will find out what I have in life. It is not the item, it is not the achieving a certain goal that really counts, what really counts is how you live while you working towards your goal that really counts.

You can choose to be miserable or happy, no one else can do it for you.

I do thin many people are unsatisfied with their lives these days. Everyone want more, bigger, better, namebrands, the best of everything. I personally live a very simple peaceful life and it is possible to have that. It is up to us. No we can't stop the bad things from happening in our world around us, but we can make a peaceful, loving home without all of those things. They are just things! There are more people on antidepressants in our country than ever before. I think people live very stressful, over scheduled lives and therefore end up not really living life at all. I think it is up to us and what we are willing to do or not do to have peace in our lives at least in our homes.

Yes, your story happens to be the average story, most people are living a listless and boring life. We live in fear, live in stress and pollution and do not live life to the full. We are taken for a ride by religion, rituals, superstition, customs etc. We get caught in a CATCH-22 situation, all our lives and do not get release.

you are absolutely right. indian claims to be 5000 years old civilised society till it can't breadth freely. A few handful of men seem to have taken over the lordship of the billion strong men and women , girls and boys and what all left.Peace of mind is however inversely proportional to the higher degree of so called modern education. At the bottom line, those so called religious , god- fearing, apparently simple folks are just awaiting their turn. they will kill people in case it is reqd to satisfy their kind of need. It's case of man-made inequlity.modern society tend to label those who do not fight shy to bring equalty back to the centre stage. Fall of Monarchy in Nepal and participation of the Mao-ist in democracy are the silver linings.Long live true democracy and end to inequality.

We have the power to choose, right? We are the creators of our life... Let us say there is someone who points a gun at you, what would you do? cry, shake with fear, calm down, smile or laugh? A lot of choices, right? That's an extreme example, but in simple life there are more choices. It is up to us... so they just used that power which God gave us that angels never had... CHOICE... so that is the main reason why... they never became wise... in deciding...

You have honestly put your words together in a simple and straightforward manner!

Look at evolution growth and existence of human race! A position of leadership did exist always, which has been occupied by both competent and incompetent leaders!

If you regard religion as code of social activities (which included learned people, king Industry and implementers) you will find that said evolution is just natural!

It has given knowledge, pleasure of living and satisfaction to followers of religion! More religions emerged citing superior principles, more ....isms emerged assuring free community living based on law and rules and finally we are citizen of countries(not of world). You can say said evolutions are also natural!

Look at chain of incidents! Past knowledge die and new ideas, science and technology emrges! Do you find anything un-natural in said changes!

Even today family is that strong element of society that bear brunt of social changes! ...isms have transformed religions and religious principles insignificant and you have to look at all facts you have stated in that context!

Political will of leading countries is guiding force of law and rules and while said countries preserve their interests by hook or crook other countries bear brunt of it!

True , nobody is interested in future except those who are keen to preserve their wealth by law and rules! Society and its outlook has become so fluid. Assurance(rule) of today will be broken tomorrow! Just live today. It is sensible option!

Yes you can also survive by sensibly associating with societies (that still maintains fairplay)!

A single option indeed!
