Taking an exam for this in an hour...just confused as to why you would pick 2400 in this case because it gives you $0. I know in a monopoly you'd pick the thing that makes the highest profit...but why would you pick something with no return?

Quantity Price Profit
0 36 0
200 33 6,600
...
1000 21 21,000
1200 18 21,600
1400 15 21,000
...
2200 3 6,600
2400 0 0

Perfect competition - you pick 2400. Why?

Sorry that this question is so open ended but I think that the answer is yes and no. If we look at the prices of tickets to attend major sporting events these are likely to be above marginal cost; the price I pay being way above what I cost in terms of extra security etc On the other hand, if I think in terms of costs as being opportunity costs; the organisers may have been able to sell my seat to someone else at a much higher price (look at the existance of ticket touts). And then, there is the chance that an event might be broadcast for free on TV. If P

I am looking for a rational argument for Socialism. How it could possibly work (outside of small secluded societies), why it hasn't been implemented, etc.

I am a capitalist, so I really don't need any pro-capitalist arguments, but if you must, feel free.

we seem to have a problem in this country with under funded sections of key service areas i.e. armed forces & the n.h.s. Now im no economist but why dont we print more money and channel it into improving these services instead of squandering it on silly projects such as the dome and other failed enterprise areas. derrrrrrrr!

A lot of folks round here think that the only worthwhile economic activity is manufacturing heavy tangible objects. And so they complain that advanced economies like the US and the UK are deficient, because instead of everyone being assembly line workers, so many people instead are worthless doctors, accountants, financial analysts, pharmaceutical researchers, graphics designers, etc.

... So my question is, how did these severely retarded people ever learn to use the Internet and come here?
