I've been watching food prices go skyward and wonder why this isn't an issue in the press and last fall's elections. What's going on? Is it patriotic to keep it under the table as part of the war effort? Or am I imagining this?

many countries have billions of poor people, rich people becomes rich everyday and the condition of poor people remains the same or they try every hard step to lift their lifestyle by just one step up.there are people with no food,shelter,clothing..... still in evry part of the world.so many die due to proper medical facilities.why dont the state have a serious look into this matter.i believe if all the poor people are given their needs and their neccesity, they shall always help the nation more economically then reduce the economy of the state.

communism and socialism are economic systems that seek, to some extent, to create a more economically egalitarian society. The more extreme cases tend to fail but only end up harming the people who voted for such systems in the first place. So why do many Americans tend to stigmatize more socialist countries as fundementally evil? what is the threat?

To be frank, in an almost purely capitalist society such as ours, the rich should be respected and comended for their hard work and daring entrepreneurial activities rather than over taxed and looked down on. The poor (with exceptions such as those who have become poor due to natural disaster and have diseases, in general things out of their control) on the other hand, should be the ones who people should have no sympathy for, especially those who are homeless and refuse to work. Why don't they work like everyone else? No one is stopping them! I think blind sympathy has led us away from the path our Founding Fathers set: Good, pure capitalism.

Note: I am middle class.

More jobs are moving over seas because the work can be done cheaper and more efficient than at home. With the proposed minimum wage increase bill, we'll find more jobs becoming scarce.

Do Americans really expect more from their labor than anywhere else? Is American labor really worth the value many workers seem to believe it is worth?
