Well that's impossible to know. I think the oldest existing country is like 1000 years old-San Marino, and we're no where near that. The Roman empire lasted 12 centuries before it collapsed. One thing to keep in mind is that the current nation-state structure is alot more stable than previous institutions, i.e. the city-state or tribe, etc, and as more and more governments become democratic, the world should stabilize even more. Given the interdependent state of the global economy it's in no countries' best interest to significantly destabilize the system-barring religious nutjobs of course, therefore I don't think you'll be seeing that happening anytime soon. Also keep in mind the amount of patriotism we as a people have-popular secession would never occur, and our military will remain preeminent well into this century. So the only option left would be some sort of catastrophe, probably nuclear war. If you're looking for a nation to break up you should look at Iraq or maybe the UK...

It depends on how you look at it. Most countries don't last 200 years and it could be argued that although this is still called the United States it is vastly different from the country by the same name and place founded over 200 years ago.

That country had a very limited Federal Government most of the governing was done at the local level. There was no income tax. There was no social security, unemployment benefits minimum wage laws. The government we have now is completely different. Senators no longer represent the States but are popularly elected leaving state governments with no official representation to the Federal government.

In that sense its already overthrown. We even allow the federal government to regulate the amount of water used by toilets per flush. The founders of this country would not have stood for that level of Federal intrusion.
