It's obvious that we live in a rich, multi-cultural society in Britain today. That being said I do have an anthropological question. I read recently that the English people who's heritage is largely derived from the original nordic invaders (Angles, Saxons and Jutes) in the 5th Century AD, the Norse Vikings and the Danes in the 700's AD, as well as the Norman Conquest in 1066 are reputed by physical anthropoligists to be the fairest skinned people on earth--even lighter in complexion than the Celtic peoples of the British Isles. Do you find this to be true? I know the French and the Germans laugh at us for our sunburns whenever we go on holiday. The American's have a stereotype of English people as being toothless and pastey white. And, myself being of 100% English blood I realise I am hopeless with the sun. I burn terribly and my natural colour is "extreme white." What are your observations about the English supposedly being so pale?

Polar bears have black skin to aid in keeping it warm.
Now if a polar bear is an animal that has adapted to cold climates but has black skin to aid in keeping it warm, then how have white people adapted to cold climate--with white skin?

Thanks. This isn't an attempt at racism. Just a mature discussion to be had.

Natural selection or the fixidity of species? ( well, i wanna know how many scientists are here or how about how many religious people are here. Or at least, how many have taken a physical anthropology course in college....remember Darwin's theory?) Oh and you don't have to explain your reasons. :-)

What's with the use of 'lol'? Yes, I know that it means 'lots of laughs' or 'laughing out loud'. I'm talking about its overuse.

I've seen dozens of cases where there was nothing amusing in either the question or answer. Yet there it was, 'lol'.

Can anybody explain why?

And before you say that I don't have a sense of humor, I know what is funny and what isn't. In a previous life I was the court jester @ Camelot for King Arthur.

It seems like an odd, although very attractive look. I've always found the girls in Dublin very appealing to my English eyes.

Let's say no humans grow any taller, heavier or stronger than a young child, but have conventional adult intelligence.

How would your life be different? Would we kill most dogs due to our own insignificant size and fear of being preyed upon?

Conventional construction for example, would be nearly impossible so perhaps more technical innovations would exist to make up for our physical weakness.

Imagine professional sport? There'd be no sporting elite as we'd all be the same size and ability!

How would you adjust or how would life be different?
