Natural selection or the fixidity of species? ( well, i wanna know how many scientists are here or how about how many religious people are here. Or at least, how many have taken a physical anthropology course in college....remember Darwin's theory?) Oh and you don't have to explain your reasons. :-)

Koko, I am not atheist, I am just enrolled in a class that studies evolution and natural selection. Please do not go and assume things about me that isn't true. Thanks.

Religion always emphasizes on the theory part of evolution. I have news: electricity is a theory, but churches sure use electricity and do not criticize it. Because if they did not have air conditioning and lamps, they will eventually lose all of their money donors, I mean followers.

For those that say evolution is OK, but by God's will:

Welcome to a step closer to reality! You are an intelligent person that realizes that there is something wrong with the way the Bible describes our world. All you need is a little more information and you will soon realize that there are to many problems with the way Man has chosen to describe God. I say this because I admit the possibility of a creator, but not the way most religions describe it. I also admit the possibility of we are here just because it happened.

It does not matter what I believe in. Evolution by natural selection is supported by overwhelming evidence and has great predictive power, as any good theory does. "Fixidity" of species is a concept that is utterly refuted and you could not predict next Tuesday from this concept.

PS I have never taken physical anthropology and I never will. I am a scientist; an ethologist.

I believe that God created us all, but in an evolving Universe. An evolving Universe only allows natural selection for long term survival.

But, humans have a way of messing up natural selection. We do that by our lack of limits on hunting and on our abuse of each other. If we did not hunt animals to extinction, there would be many more species of animals in the world today. If we were not so busy segregating ourselves by race and religion, we would all be closer as a species and much more integrated

Take care,
Troy

The Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection by Charles Darwin is one of the greatest most insightful books ever written. It has been suported by a mountain of additional evidence since it was written.

Considering that 99% of our genetic makeup is shared with chipanzees, I would have to argue that natural selection is how we evolved. Adam and Eve must have had parents.

Natural selection. Survival of the fittest is only logical.
