A most gracious and selfless appraisal of wonderfully heart-warming people. I applaud your magnanimity and broadmindedness. I agree wholeheartedly with everything you say, including the fact that I'm not Irish either. Good luck to them all!

It depends where you go. If you scratch below the placid tourist surface, and go there to work, not visit, you will find a lot of bigotry, particularly religious and anti-Brit. Some people would say they have good historical reason for that, but if the Brits can get on with the Germans after what the Nazis did, surely it's time to be all European together?

According to a survey in Dutch daily De Telegraaf an unusual poll has voted the Swiss, Scandinavians and the Belgians as Europe's most polite nations.
The Dutch have voted themselves Europe's third most loutish, bad-mannered nation putting them behind the Russians and French.
"As we are too many people living in just a little country our tolerance of one another is continuously declining," wrote one of the survey respondents.

Yes, they are just consider this, the 1810, 1830 and 1850 American censuses showed the South to be made up of roughly 50% Celtic, 30% English and the remaining 20% were German, French or Spanish. Everyone in the world is familiar with the manners of Southern Americians. It is evident we brought manners over with us; our brothers and sisters still at home clearly demostrate the same traits, excellent manners, good looks, brain and heart.

Having recently spent a week in Cork i have to agree with you, they are genuinely lovely, polite people. However, two of my Southern Irish friends are quick to point out that all is not perfect in these parts. There is currently a problem with racist and homophobic abuse, this is probably due to the strong Christian morality held by many, and a lack of tolerance for those who do not abide by these morals.
Ofcourse none of these issues were noticeable to me on my holiday there, they were expressed by locals.

I'm from Northern Ireland but I agree. There's a lot I don't like about their part of the Country, but for the most part I though they were polite and cheerful. We Northerners are a bit more moody and bolshier.
