Not saying it should or shouldn't be, and I get the history, but why are dom vio academic studies so closely related to gender studies, why not psychology, psychiatry, sociology, law, or criminal justice?

I've always been curious why gender academia seems to focus on this issue more than the other social sciences/academic disciplines.

Your thoughts?

I'm a very forgetful person. Are there any ways to help me remember things/jog my memory? It's kinda embarrassing, but I can't remember where I put down my iPod. I'm SURE it's in the house.

OK

My wife and I have a 1.5 yo daughter. She is very active at home and knows most of her ABCs and 123s. She is both physically and mentally active. But once she gets outside of the house and see people it’s a whole different story. When my wife and I try to get her to play with different kids she shys away and runs back to either me or my wife. If I continue to push her to play with kids she will eventually cry. I notice when she does see new kids she looks at them almost like she is looking at a ghost or Alien. She does have some friends though. However, she has to see them a long time before she gets adjusted and feels comfortable with them. I’m kind of concerned she may have some very light form of autism or aspergers. I’m thinking this because I was similar all the way though high school till this day.

My wife had signed her up for ballet class this Spring. This class contains around 10 young children of 3 and up. The class meets once a week for about 1 hour.

ok i have been in band for about 4 yrs and i used to really like it but now it seems more like a job. and anyone whos in band knows that its a HUGE commitment and i dont think i want to waste my time like that anymore since i have all honors and A.P. classes and my career has nothing to do with music.

Although people say that by being in band looks better to colleges and i could get scholarships by being in it but then again i cant really get them if im just an average player right?Overall i really invested thousands of dollars into it and lost almost all my friend (outside of band ) just to be in it and i'd hate to think it was all for nothing ya know. surprizingly though i still like being in it but i dont at the same time
most people say that i should probly coast for a year and make my choice then , what do you think i should do?

I have this dream where there is a lot of people I know, a girl I know is half a boy I know. Does this make sense? Like, the left side is a girl, the right side is a boy. Does it mean one of them is gay or "doing it".

So far the readers say your not "nuts" if you talk out loud to yourself (while working etc.) And almost all of the readers say that they believe in, ghosts, aliens, and the supernatural. So if someone who believes in ghosts and spirits, also talks to themselves, are they "nuts"?

I volunteer for an organization that deals with young adults. One of our goals is to teach them some mannors such as saying please and thank you. One instance last night turned sour and required us to ask one of the young adults to leave the building.

It began when I was put in charge of handing out an item. If one of the young adults came up to me usually they said "Could I please have a ..." and I would gladly give them whatever they requested. But my buttons started being pushed by another young adult who came up and demanded something. To which I replyed, "I dont respond to demands, but if you ask me nicely and say please, I would be more then willing to help you." To which he said "I dont even say please to my own mom" At that point I said, "Then you wont get anything from me". Needless to say shortly after he started causing problems, and was asked to leave when he started cussing.

How could I have handled this situation better?

To my dismay I have realized that I am a people pleaser. It is wearing me down, and people feel that they can use me any time they feel like it. I want a little respect in life...I'm just afraid to say no and make people unhappy. I think its time for a change. But how do I do it? Any suggestions at all?

I've seen 2 questions today regarding this, one asking about men's "pink flag" reaction to a woman indicating she is a feminist, the other dictating how men are so fervently unattracted to powerful and successful women.

In my eyes this is the patriarchy at work, "Honey don't hold those beliefs, or your stock goes down"

As if our stock should be determined by men who should dictate what IS and what IS NOT attractive.

Why do you get to decide what is or is not?

Either way...Why on earth should we give a rats a$$ what attracts you?

Should men adhere their lives and beliefs simply because that's what attracts women?

Serious answers please

The state of Virginia's social services department recently passed a law asking men to voluntarily notify the state when they have had sex with a woman, so that if in the event of pregnancy and adoption, the state will have record of potential fathers and be able to notify the man so that he may consent to adoption of his child.

An interesting side note of this is that the child support offices will have access to the records although they will not establish paternity.

Another interesting thing is that "fornication -- sex between unmarried adults -- is a misdemeanor in Virginia. So I guess by asking men to register, the state is also asking them to cop to a crime -- rarely enforced, but nonetheless, a crime."

"If fathers don't file the paperwork, they give up their right for the state to inform them about a possible adoption or if they've lost their parental rights."

"If the form contains the address of the woman, she will be notified."

What are your thoughts on this?

I initially began using Yahoo to get help on some serious issues, when I knew I couldn't discuss them with anyone I knew.
Now it feels as if I've gotten into the addiction of asking questions on Yahoo for the tiniest of things; things I could probably figure out on my own, but insist on asking the Yahoo community. I am just as addicted to other internet activities as well.
How do I overcome this co-dependency or addiction? I'm afraid at some point it might get so bad as to consume my life.
Thanks. =)

It seems like no matter what, they will never be happy. My Dad has always had a negative attitude in general. My Mom, or at least it seems, used to be happy, but now all she does is dwell on the past. There are solutions to most of their problems but I guess they would rather not make the effort. I understand that they are both depressed (I have dealt with it myself) but at a certain point, I think you need to take responsibility & try to do something about the things that are bothering you. For example, my Mom has been unhappy because we moved away 3 years ago. Now that they are moving to the same state, she keeps telling me that she's not going to be able to stand living so close to some of my Dad's other relatives. It's like, can't you ever be happy?! She's finally getting what she wanted so I don't understand! What do you make of it? And btw, they also make excuses not to go to therapy.
