No, not really.

Although I'll tell you why it's male: men are the default sex, and while it is completely normal for women to be represented as such (e.g. have male interests, "Hi guys!" etc), it is abnormal for a man to be represented as a woman.

So it's not uncommon.

That could be a female with a turtleneck and short hair. In fact, it kind of looks like K.D. Lang's silhouette.

normally I would point out that it's an assumption that it is a man in the picture and not a short haired woman, but upon further inspection there seems to be a hint of an Adam's apple. Interesting, nice observation.

EDIT to Jonmc: your feeble attempts to display intelligence in the realm of gender academia are getting annoying, really. Study the science itself prior to making half-assed attempts at debunking it. Both your adherence to stereotypical ideals and your superiority complex are showing.

The post was not in reference to this question, but another, and the question remains, such ill contempt for this realm, yet so many posts. hmm a hypocrite me thinks, ta ta "genius"

I preferred it when the default was a smiley face (they changed it several months ago). Why did they change it, anyway? As for it being sexist, who cares? It's completely trivial.

Heck no. He's wearing a turtle neck, the fashion police would catch him in a matter of seconds.

No, the little things don't bother me.
Anyway, if the avatar was female, would guys become cranky about it? Just curious.

Sexist, no. Dumb, yes. Can't there be default pictures for those who registered as females?
