It seems when you make a comment about certain groups of people it is always considered a stereotype, but when you say something like, "Middle Eastern people have a different concept of personal space than westerners." It is considered a cultural trait? Can't there be cultural traits for different cultures living in the same area?

For the most part, I love Yahoo Answers however on occasion I've had some people make mean comments. One told me I was ugly, another told me I was stupid.

Even in life, I seem to concentrate on the negative comments rather then the positive comments.

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts/theories about this?

How is it that some people don't care about others? They could care less if something bad happened to somone, as long as it isn't them. What causes this? Is it a condition? Or is it simply the way they are (personality wise?)

Has anyone else been on a jungian journey into the collective unconscious by using the shadow as a metaphor for the primal self that gets repressed by the modern persona and also by using an underground setting and labyrinth office design to represent both the depths of the psyche and the dungeon-like isolation of our increasingly mechanistic society which prevents people from finding satisfying work or meaningful connections with others?

I have an adult child that may have this condition. I know its diagnosed and treated by a psychiatrist. Can a person with borderline personality disorder really not remember the episodes of it and the mood swings and intense anger? During these episodes my child often threatens suicide, although she has never tried it and can be both physically and verbally abusive. She claims to not remember her behavior the next day. I never know when the mood swings will hit her and she can be fun and great to be around one day and a complete nightmare the next. How do I cope as her parent and how do I help her beyond being supportive of her seeing a psychiatrist to get help?

I would rather be feared.Love tends to fade. When I say feared,I don't mean being a bully or being mean towards people. To be feared would make people more cautious about how they approch you.

A man will beat up, or at least sternly address/warn a man that is being physically or verbally inappropriate with his girlfriend. Why is it that women in America don't stick up for their men if it were the same vice-versa? Remember when Leonardo DiCaprio got cut with a broken bottle by some random crazy woman. DiCaprio's woman sat and did nothing. This wouldn't be the case if a man did this to his girlfriend. He'd let him have it. A man isn't supposed to hit a woman, and most men will not hit a woman. The only alternative is for a woman to do something about it when another woman is out of control. It's acceptable for a woman to hit another woman if that is the only form of resolution. Why don't women in America stick up for their men?

Women, if you saw a woman spit in your boyfriend or husband's face, or saw her being verbally abusive to him, or saw her punch him, would you let her have it? Or would you just sit there and let him deal with it himself because "he's the man"?

k I've had this weird dream that i'm walking with my grandpa around the garden an suddenly, the dream shifts from us walking to two color changeing snake haveing a conversation about how they want to kill us and then it shifts back to me and him walking around the garden again. I see them comeing towards us and then we are suddenly on the other side of the property, jumping over the fence and just as we're about to get into the house, my grandpa gets bitten by one of the snakes and pushes me inside the house where there are color changeing frogs everywhere and then i wake up. I'm 16, not afraid of snakes and know this isn't normal specially when i've had it 9 times in a row. I'm not eating or drinking anything before bed so i don't know what it is. Could somebody please shed some light on this very strange dream because i have no idea what it means. My grandpa's not even dead so i dunno...

I have dreams like this every night, but I took the liberty of writing this one down as soon as I woke up, while it was still fresh in my memory.(And I Swear I Don't Use Drugs!=])

My cousin wanted me to drop her off at the mall on my way somewhere, we drove from her house. After I dropped her off, I suddenly had a white bag full of groceries I was carrying over my shoulders, not only that, but my deaf-mute aunt was taking my groceries from me! I yelled at her in sign language and she got into a van and drove off. I wanted to chase her, but for some reason it took me an eternity to put my key into the ignition, and I could see her driving by trees gradually gaining distance. Finally, I got the car to work and drrove over sidewalks and grassy hills to catch up with her. As I was speeding down a sidewalk, I noticed a cop car and was sure he would try to stop me, but out of nowhere a brown horse reared up and must've caught the officers attention, because they didn't give chase. Details to that question: - I think, and I speak for all Australians that we are not getting paid enough through the jobs we do. Labouring, factory hand, security, customer service fields, etc. Why is it that when everything's prices skyrockets, like rent, food, fuel, clothes, interest rates, etc but our wages stay the same where is the justice in all this? Just to get by we are optionless to work 2 jobs nowadays or we bankrupt. Alot of Australians are struggling just to keep their heads above water. I think a rise in wages significantly will remove 90% of stress off all of us. I have researched and some countries make a payrise once sometimes twice a year and yes along with it everything else's prices go up too but we dont even have that so please I urge the Australian government to take this as seriously as possible and I'm asking all Australians to stand up and point this most important question to the government.

If your dad tells you to shut up and settle down if you talk to someone else, or whisper or talk to the dog in a polite way. Or if you step on a sticker and say Ow he says "knock it off!"(in other words shut up you stupid b****)

You're not hyper you're just minding your business and you get hurt and upset and feel like crying. How to deal with this??

You are now 22 and they controlled and manipulated you to the point of you not being able to get your drivers license, nor a job, nor a place to live except there. They're nicer to your brothers.

Suggestions?

They won't even let you get your driver's license.
You don't have a car.
You live in the middle of nowhere
You did have a place of your own but your roommate stalked and harassed you, and she let in a drug addict stranger without letting you know about it.
So moving out is not an option right now.

So how to deal with an abusive controlling person?

please be nice and no harassment.
