I've noticed latley that there are many of these kids that wear these black hooded jackets adorned with various patches of rock bands or symbols. While that may be somewhat ok for winter ,although a little tastless, it's just bizzare for summer. Even when it's about 90 degrees outside I can still see them with those hoods over their heads. Why do they do that?

My older brother is 10 mos. older than myself. We were very close growing up and I really looked up to and admired him.

In high school he had great grades, he was handsome, played sports and was very popular. I was very proud of him.

After school he went to college for a couple of years and was an honor student. Then he went into the Navy. In the Navy he suffered a mental break down and was diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Long story short, after his diagnosis I felt like the brother I knew and admired was dead. Someone else took his place who is strange and delusional. He is hard to be around. We have a big family, my parents live close to him and we are from a family of five kids.

Whenever he calls, I dodge his calls and I never visit him. Instead, he talks to each of my kids. Am I horrible for dodging him? Or, is this a normal reaction? Do I need counseling to learn how to cope with his illness?

I see so many poorly phrased questions here on the answers board and I wonder if the people asking the question are ever helped by the answers.
Is a poor grasp of written communication a barrier to gaining the information you need?

They are others used, but this one invariably has me feeling 'irked' when I read it ...it's a little like the over-used 'canned laughter' tracks that American TV 'HAS' to use.

I watched an episode of the series M.A.S.H. a few months back in the States (I hadn't seen it in a long time) ....and I was puzzled! I couldn't figure out what it was that was 'Wrong' with it. Then it dawned on me, 'Canned laughter' which spoilt the pleasure of it for me (having seen it at home in the UK without that 'laughter' track).

Some years ago I went as a member of the audience to a BBC radio programe (it was a live broadcast, I think!) Overhead were signs which lit up telling you 'when to applude' / 'when to laugh.'

Why not employ someone like a 'Conductor,' maybe dressed like a clown'!

I never went to another.

When you answer a question on Yahoo! Answers, does the answer neseccarily spring to mind? Do the words flow freely from your mouth or do you sit, pause and think of how it can be said professionally. When its done do you redo it, over and over, until the words look impecable? And do you feel your answer contributes to the individual or are you just seeking to speak your mind?

I read earlier about the 'N' word (referring to be who are Black), and about it being a 'Hateful' word.

I don't think it is a 'hateful' word. Like the man (Will Shakespeare) wrote, 'A rose by any other name....'

It's all subjective ....as some people refer to clothing as 'sexy.' Clothing cannot be sexy or sexual as it is simply inert material.

People are not 'hot' without someone having this as their perception of that person. This perception likely tells us more about the person seeing, and not necessarily about the object of their perception.

Cross Rock (a Black American), himself says the "Black folk don't like living next to 'N's' as they bring trouble with them (and so lower the real estate values of their properties)."

It's is the attitudes of people which are the probably the greatest problems we have ~ along with the ability to express themselves without the inability to not descend into simple-minded child-like 'name calling.'

Many people believe that suicide represents the ultimate failure to cope with stress, whereas some people think that suicide itself is a coping response. Which view do you support, and why?

i want details... here are mine:

i like my clean cotton sheets

my quilt and comfortor on top of that

my blankets pulled up above my sholders, no body parts are hanging out of my blankets

I have to have my favorite pillow

i used to sleep with a teddy

I really like to have "white noise" it is a fan that sits on a table next to me, that drowns out other noises that i would have otherwise heard, and also creates a pleasing consistant noise.

Last thing is usually I choose to sleep naked ; )

what about you, any particulars to get that much needed rest?

I smoked for over 30 years and quit 17 yrs. ago. I quit cold turkey and beer at the same time. No one was able to get through to me and I did it with shear willpower. This may work for my son before he aquires serious health issues but I would like to help him facilitate a smoking cessation process without "bossing" and prostelitizing him which may lead to further alienation. Any suggestions?
